Yeah, you don't get a .320 slugging percentage and mediocre defense out of your left fielder every day.

He did lead them to the SB. The great thing about his start is I had TM and Mr. Reason apologize to me. Reason told me he was the best Bears QB he had ever seen. It's been downhill since then.

I was also a big Pierre supporter. I like the guy. I think he was the last Cub with 200 hits.

From the mold of Lance Johnson and Kenny Lofton.

129 hits, 15 extra base hits. But over 47 stolen bases now right? That's like almost an extra 50 doubles.

Except that Kenny Lofton played exceptional defense in center and slugged over .400 most years.

His range has always been good. His problem has always been he throws worse than a girl. A career .378 SLG isn't terrible for a guy with no power.

First, that's not even close to his slugging percentage this year. Second, he has pretty damn limited range, hence he is playing left field. Third, a .378 slugging percentage is terrible for left field. Now, go back to first. Repeat as necessary.

Pierre walks more than he strikes out too. Please don't forget Rios is also in the title of this thread.

I just pointed out what he has done in his career. He isn't in the lineup for power he is a CF playing left. The most HR's he hit in a season was 3.

I used to run the bases like Juan Pierre...

But your being right about them is only in the context of them being in the White Sox. I don't care what he was doing in Colorado.

Yes. I had him stealing 60 bases and he is 12 away. While his average isn't at .300 it is pretty close. A hot stretch should do the job. As I said earlier don't forget about Rios.

Pierre's UZR/150 is 15.1 so he must be doing something right.

He's fast but takes poor routes to the ball.

Pierre wasn't brought in to be a slugger, IB. That would be like you critisizing Jay Cutler for only have 1 rushing TD.

He's your left fielder. That's a slugging position. You're not even getting that good of slap hit production out of him, but you're getting no power whatsoever from a position where power is needed. It would be more like me criticizing Jay Cutler for having one throwing touchdown. You shouldn't make a players expectations really, really low, then act like you are getting good production when he meets those expectations.

 No.

Cutler was brought in to throw, not rush. Pierre was brought in to be a leadoff guy and steal bases, not slug. See the point?

No, I don't. He plays left field. You don't bring in a left fielder to lead off and steal bases, because that's really fucking stupid. It's like bringing in a quarterback to rush. Good if he can do it, but you need offensive production from that position, and you aren't getting any with Pierre out there.

And as for the "lead off and steal bases" part, his on base percentage isn't very good (under .350), he's been picked off five times, and he's been caught stealing another fourteen times. His stolen base percentage is very average (75%). And those are the things he needs to do, given that you're completely wasting a corner outfield position on a player with a sub-.320 slugging percentage, and he's not even very good at those.

Yeah, you're right. Nobody has ever had success with a LF who isn't a slugger  .....

Rickey had about 300 HR's in his career. He wasn't a slugger, but he wasn't Scotty Pods either.

You might want to take a closer look at Henderson's stats during his prime, champ. From 1985 to 1993, Henderson Had an OBP of .410, a slugging percentage of .466, and 169 home runs per season (19 a year). He was also, you know, the greatest baserunner to ever play the game (he stole 84% of his bases during that stretch), which Juan Pierre most definitely isn't.

As for Scott Podsednik, I wouldn't make any grand extrapolations from one player, but even he had a better slugging percentage than Pierre this year (.349). Also, every other starter on that 2005 team had a slugging percentage over .400, meaning that you could carry dead weight at one position. This year, five regular starters have slugging percentages under .400. If that's the case, you won't win with a slap hitter in left field. You need the production too much.

Oh yeah, the 2003 Marlins seemed to do OK with Pierre in LF

In looking for a picture of Pierre on the Marlins, I found this;
