Next time I go to the bank I'm asking for 50's.

I'm more worried about the defense than the offense. They can't play like they have the last few years. I'm not seeing a ton of talent but everybody needs to make adjustments, fundamentally, schematically, mentally, Their approach to every team looks the same and they don't have the talent to make up for it.

I feel just the opposite. I'm excited about the potential of our offense but I'm unsure how fast they will come together. It's a complex system and it doesn't appear the Bears have a good grasp of it now.

Nas, of all your optimism, listing Tommie as an impact player is the most curious, IMO

He's stayed on the field the last few seasons even though he was injured. In the time he has been on the field he appears to have gained at least a step from last season. With Pepper on his side he will see very few double teams. Even with being 70% of the player he used to be I really believe he will win that battle more times than not. Where I think he will still have a problem is recovering when he guesses wrong. He won't have the top end speed to make up for mistakes.

For clarification...there is talent on defense like Peppers, Url, Tillman, maybe Harris - I don't think so though. When I say not seeing talent I'm thinking of Bowman, Alfalava, Graham, Manning, Steltz. That line better work or they will be in trouble.

I'm encouraged by the receivers I saw open the other night. They look like they are getting it.

I think Chris Harris will continue to do Chris Harris type things. He'll make a lot of great plays and deliver some bone crushing hits but he will also take poor routes to the ball and give up big plays. His good will outweigh his bad. I'm concerned about the other safety position. Major Wright made some good plays in limited time but he didn't seem comfortable out there. I really like Alfalava and think Steltz would be great if he had a little more speed.

The Bears are a patchwork team. There is a lot of garbage on both sides of the ball. Of the 11 players on offense, how many of them can be considered a lock to be goods players this year? Maybe Cutler & Forte. The entire OL & WR corp is a question mark. On the Defensive side of the ball, Peppers & Briggs are locks to be good players. Urlacher, Tillman, Harris, & the rest of the DL, LB'S & the Defensive backfield are all question marks. Urlacher & Tillman are clearly on the downside of their careers & neither will ever play 16 games in a season again, in my opinion.
I don't care what system you run on offense, but if your OL is bad, you will fail, period. It is inexcusable that the Bears have done nothing to improve the OL which protects the Bears most important player. Jay Cutler should be pissed pf about this. It is inexcusable that the Bears have done nothing to improve the WR position. Jay Cutler should be pissed pf about this.
Mike Martz is a mad scientist. His system is very difficult to learn, especially in just 1 year. The Bears Offense may score points against bad Defenses, but will struggle against a decent D.
The Bears Defense will look & perform about the same as the last 3 years, blitzing too much, & giving up big plays & 3rd down conversions. Peppers cant fix all that is wrong with this Defense. Chris Harris isn't the same guy who left a few years ago. Neither is Urlacher or Tillman. And don't tell me about Peanuts ability to punch the ball out. Stop yourself...Just make the fucking tackle.

Having said all that...BEARS 16-0 !!!

So you can make judgments based on preseason performance, then, eh?

That is a pretty good summary of the 2010 Chicago Bears. This team just doesn't have enough good players.

You were stating how well the defense would play based on preseason games when they aren't showing anyone anything. SB teams have gone 0-4 in the preseason and the Lions went 4-0 the year they didn't win a game. Therefore the preseason doesn't tell you much of anything except what you may see in individual battles. My observation of Tommie Harris was based on quickness in live action.

Never mind the pre season record. Just watch the players. The Bears only have 4 players out of 22 who are locks to be good. The rest are all either question marks or locks to be bad. This upcoming Bears season is going to be a long downhill slide similar to what the Cubs experienced this year. The fan & media angst against Lovie & the Bears will heat up after week 8 or 9. The second half is gonna be long & ugly.
I am looking forward to Mike Martz ignoring Lovie's plea's to run the ball more!

Well it isn't exactly going out on a limb to predict that the Bears will blow this year, & yea, I would love to be completely wrong & for the Bears to win the Super Bowl this year. I have posted this before because it is what I believe.

But, my assessment was based largely on "individual battles": Zach Bowman--bad, Tommie Harris---mediocre, defensive line generally--bad.

The stuff about physical play and blitzing has been true for the past few seasons, not just the preseason.

Chris "Difference-Maker" Harris looked absolutely putrid last night against Arizona. And Tommie Harris wasn't much better.

Chris "Difference-Maker" Harris looked absolutely putrid last night against Arizona. And Tommie Harris wasn't much better.

I thought Tommie played well.(Didnt watch every play)

The defensive line, including Peppers, has looked awful against the pass so far. I assume Peppers is holding something back. I also assume Tommie Harris doesn't have much left. That's the way he looks to me, at least.

Tommie at least got into the backfield a few times. Last year he would go a few games at a time without doing that

I love seeing "I told you so" after the 3rd preseason game. While I expect Chris Harris to continue to take awful routes to the ball (at times) I doubt he will have a problem tackling and will make a lot of impact plays. If the bar for Tommie Harris is set at his 2006 level of play then he will fail in your eyes no matter what.

And I love seeing a prediction for a 12-4 season when it has no basis in reality.

Chris Harris, by the way, has never been a "difference maker" in the NFL.

What evidence suggests he'll be one now rather than continuing on the downward trajectory that caused the Panthers to jettison him? There is none.

But I'm the one who's jumping the gun on predictions, right?
