pizza_Place: Barracco's in The EP.

Per Brad Biggs of the Tribune, Nick Roach had knee surgery today (scope). He's expected to be available shortly before the opener.

IMO, Pisa has looked to be the best LB on the field for the Bears and this will cement his start against Rock City in 20 days.

I dont get all the love this staff has with Roach. He has not earned a starting spot as far as I am concerned.

I'm comfortable with 9 of the Bears 11 starters on defense. I think their LB core could be one of the best in the NFL if they stay healthy. Their front 7 should be really good.

The LB's better be good because the secondary sucks right now. Zack Bowman is toast, Peanut seems slow, and of course they can't decide on Manning. And did anyone see Chris Harris get shook out of his shoes by Hightower yesterday?

Bears cut special-teams ace Shaw, WR Barnes

Linebacker Tim Shaw didn't make the cut.

The player who led the Bears with a franchise-record 30 special-teams tackles last season was one of the first players released Friday, according to a league source. Shaw was playing for his job in Thursday's finale against Browns, but didn't do enough to impress the coaches.

Kevin Malast, who started at middle linebacker and recovered a fumble against the Browns, told the Tribune in a text message that he has been released. Another linebacker released Friday was Kelvin Smith, a third-year player from Syracuse.

Wide receiver Freddie Barnes, an undrafted free agent who attended Homewood-Flossmoor and Bowling Green, was informed that he has been waived.
