Thats right steve. Not all teams have the luxury of calling up an Andrew Cashner or a Notre Dame WR to pitch out of the pen.

Twins lose tonight, this thing isn't over per se (unless you are using ES math)

The bullpen is on life support, it's time for Putz to hit the DL, let's see what Charlotte has to offer.

Using MY math huh?? Thats funny  The Sox have gone 4-6 in their last 10 games. They have lost 11 of their last 17. The Twins have lost 2 games to another 1st place team, including a very well played 4-3 game last night. The Rangers record (17 games over .500) is almost as good as the Twins. After the Twins game tonight ( should be another good one, with Brian Deunsing7-1 1.92 ERA faces C.J. Wilson 12-5 3.02 ERA) the Twins play the Seattle Mariners and then the Detroit Tigers. After the Sox finish up with Baltimore, they face the Yankees. They also have a series left with the REd Sox, who are desperately trying to contend for the wild card. Can't wait to see the Sox bullpen against the Yankees.

It's funny that sjgirl posts something like he did. Funny, because he does not bother to try to dispute the facts in my post. He doesn't because he can't. The numbers are accurate. The Sox have lost 11 of their last 17. They do have to play the Yankees and Red Sox still, along with the Twins. When you can't even beat the Royals, that doesnt seem promising. Sox fans COULD TRY to argue that the Sox could go on a run like the Colorado Rockies did a couple years ago and still get to the playoffs by overcoming the Twins. But nobody can believe that this team is capable of such a run, when they have dropped their last 5 series'. Not when they have lost 11 of their last 17 and the bullpen is in shambles. So by all means, stay with your tact of deriding me and not addressing the facts in the post. The facts are too tough to dispute. Good day....

Nobody cares about the "facts" you are rehashing that any 10 year old could find on MLB.com. It's just idiotic to continue this pathetic attempt to goad Sock fans with this blowhard drivel. I don't really follow the myriad of reasons people give you shit on here, but you are one of the worst posters of content in the history of the board. Blow those facts out your asshole, and good day to you sir.

Numbers are only part of the story HorseBoy. Teams go through hot and cold spells. I for one take your precious numbers with a grain of salt because, while yes, if the numbers stay where they are, the Twins have already won the division. This is why they play the fucking games. No one can say with any certainty that they won't make up the 3 1/2 games. Shit, they have 3 games against the Twins in September. When I read your crap, I read the bitter whining of an upset Cub fan whose team shat the bed all year with the promise of Year One.

Go call everyone with your thought Hall of Famer. I will be here to mock them afterwards. Steak dinner boom my ass.

Hopefully Sale can fill Thornton's spot, Santos takes over for Putz and Jenks looks like hs did last night, its a lot to hope for but right now its got to happen. With Thornton And Putz's injuries does anyine know what the severity is, will a 10-15 days do the trick or is it more severe?

Sale has really impressed me. That kid looks like he has been a pro for 2-3 years.

No, there was a steak dinner bet of some sort last summer or so. I was just looking to wrap it up and I was pissed off.

Agreed. It looks like he and Santos are the new set up combo. Hopefully Santos doesn't pitch like he did last night.

Sale has been outstanding but they can't put any more pressure on him. He's pitching in an unfamiliar role and he's already thrown over 100 innings this year as a starter in college. If Thornton and Putz go on the DL Kenny has to acquire a veteran reliever.

While I agree with the need for a veteran reliever, I don't think that's going to happen. There really aren't any available.

It's cute when Elmhurst Steve tries to fill the lack of baseball knowledge he has with parroting statistics read off of baseball reference.

According to reports LHP George Sherrill and LHP Brian Tallet have cleared waivers. Lefties are hitting .148 against Tallet this season.

Tallet is with Toronto, right? He's pretty decent if it's who I think it is.

Sherrill scares me. His ERA is almost 7 and he pitches in a pitcher friendly league (say what you will about Edwin Jackson, that one feels a little different to me). Plus, I think he has been hurt for a good chunk of the year. I'd rather take my chances with Sale and Threet.

Sergio Santos gives me stomach cramps. This guy has the goods but he is sooooo wild. I had flashes of the blown game against the Twins when he could not do shit.

Coop needs to get this kid right or the bullpen will lose more games than win.

I see Elmhurst Steve is still alive and still a douche. What's the Cubs record against the Pirates asshat?

Threets has 21.2 career innings pitched and Sale has 7.1. You can't have these two as your only lefties in a pennant race. At this point they're not going to get a top reliever but they need a guy that has experience.

At this point, could it really hurt to try something non-traditional, numbers be damned? This whole damn season has been odd anyway, so why stop now?

Edit-took out the Billy Wagner stuff, turns out he pitched well in Boston.

I understand that but the Sox also had Cliff Politte, Neal Cotts, Damaso Marte and Luis Vizcaino in the bullpen pitching lights out. That isn't the case right now. They need help.

i would like the a Tallet acquisition, has held up against AL and AL East in particular. If Thornton's isn't serious he should only be out a week, starting pitching has to step up big time. Putz I don't know the extent of the injury other than it is a knee, possbile he wouldn't be back until mid september. I really wish Pena didn't suck

I think Pena is being used wrong.

Pena has saved many games by coming in after a start shits the bed in the 3rd or 4th and pitching 3-4 innings of relief.

Pena is not too bad if he's your 6th guy. Unfortunately, now he's about the 3rd or 4th guy.

I'd take Tallet in a heartbeat. As a lefty specialist who can go long if needed, he'd be a good addition with MLB experience.
