Is Pujols the MVP if he wins the Triple Crown but the Cards lose the division ? or even if they do win the division and he wins the Triple Crown, is Votto the MVP anyway?

I would have to think that anyone who wins the triple crown should win the mvp playoffs or not. That a feat that is rarely accomplished and for it to go unrecognized would be a shame imo

Teddy Ballgame is trying to thaw out so he could post a response agreeing with you.

Playoffs and Triple Crown? Yes.

Playoffs only? Yes.

Triple Crown but no playoffs? Probably.

Neither? Shouldn't win it, but likely will anyways...

I agree with that, but was confused by this:

Even if they don't make the playoffs and he doesn't win the triple crown, I wouldn't be surprised if Pujols wins it anyways...MVP voting seems to have a way of taking previous accomplishments into account...

You could probably put the Gonzalez' into the equation (Carlos and Adrian), but both would probably need a hot month and the Rockies would at least have to keep it close enough to be interesting. Interestingly the Braves, Giants, and Phillies don't really have any viable candidates.

I agree. Even if it's done in what would be considered an off year.

This "off year" stuff is getting ridiculous. You cannot have an off year and contend for the Triple Crown. You are judged against the accomplishments of your peers, not your baseball card totals. Everyone is calling this the Year of the Pitcher. There's only like 10 guys qualified for the batting title even hitting over .300.

Pujols, Votto and whomever else are having a great year, even if some of the totals don't look like the video game numbers of the past.

The term "off year" is yet another product of the overanalyzed numbers. I don't give a flying fuck if the guy is hitting 10 points below his career average if he's still hitting .330.

To answer the original question posed, IMO, if the Reds make the playoffs and Cards don't, and Pujols doesn't win the Triple Crown, Votto should be the MVP (barring a huge slump). Pujols Triple Crown=MVP. Cards make the playoffs, Triple Crown or not, Pujols MVP.

That said, Pujols will probably win the MVP no matter what because the baseball writers are the worst voters known to man.

Yep, these fellas are correct.

Since no Americans are vying for the NL MVP, at least the writers can't be accused of a U.S. bias.

Where the hell is Votto from?
