There is one movie that sticks in my mind because of it's powerful visuals, rich dialogue and of course the tragedy that occurred while it was being made. I think it is still one of the coolest movies ever in the "hero" genre.

I still prefer:

Best hero movie ever made is the Dark Knight. PERIOD.

I probably wouldn't say The Crow was the best "dark hero" movie, but I've watched it at least 50x more than any of the recent Batman movies and would surely say its my favorite. Dark Knights were fine, but never really wanted to watch them again. Heck I'd rather watch the first two Keaton Batman movies than the last two, they're just more fun to watch. Really the soundtrack for The Crow sold it to me, I almost mentioned My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult in the favorite concert thread and they're the band playing live in the warehouse when Lee cleans the place out. They're Chicago's very own on Wax Trax! I loved all the bad guys too, Michael Wincott in particular. The guy who played T-bird is the "Warriors...come out and play" guy, how cool is that. Again, not saying The Crow was some breakthrough, but it sure made an impression on a 19 year old KDdidit. I think that's why the Dark Knight movies don't do anything big for me, as a, I hate to use the term, Gen Xer I'm bored with the "dark" brooding hero stuff. It was cool when I was growing up (like The Crow and in the same vein Batman in 1989) but it's just old hat in the 2000's and reminds you of the dumb shit you thought was cool when you were an emo angsty doofus as a teenager.

the darkest hero movie COULD'VE been "V for Vendetta"...but the wachowski brothers wussed out.

i liked "the crow" but it was almost too dark for its material. really it was just a simple revenge story bloated by a fierce and unforgettable soundtrack. brandon lee was fantastic in it though. '89 "Batman" was better than it, though. no need to even bring up "the dark knight".

I was a big fan of The Crow growing up much like you guys. Even had the movie poster hanging
in my bedroom for a while. I should probably pick it up sometime and give it another viewing.
It's probably been 15 years since I have watched it so I am curious to see how it stands up
to my review today. I have a feeling it will still be a fun one to watch and yes, the soundtrack
was excellent. ( Listed below)

Track listing
"Burn" - The Cure (Robert Smith, Simon Gallup, Boris Williams, Perry Bamonte) – 6:39
"Golgotha Tenement Blues" - Machines of Loving Grace (Scott Benzel, Mike Fisher, Stuart Kupers, Brad Kemp) – 4:01
"Big Empty" - Stone Temple Pilots (Dean DeLeo, Scott Weiland) – 4:56
"Dead Souls" - Nine Inch Nails (Joy Division) – 4:54
"Darkness" - Rage Against the Machine (Rage Against the Machine) – 3:41
"Color Me Once" - Violent Femmes (Gordon Gano, Brian Ritchie) – 4:09
"Ghostrider" - Rollins Band (Martin Rev, Alan Vega) – 5:45
"Milktoast" (also known as "Milquetoast") - Helmet (Page Nye Hamilton) – 3:59
"The Badge" - Pantera (Poison Idea) – 3:54
"Slip Slide Melting" - For Love Not Lisa (For Love Not Lisa) – 5:47
"After the Flesh" - My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult (Buzz McCoy, Groovie Mann) – 2:59
"Snakedriver" - The Jesus and Mary Chain (William Reid, Jim Reid) – 3:41
"Time Baby III" - Medicine (Jim Goodall, Brad Laner, Jim Putnam, Ruscha, Beth Thompson) – 3:52
"It Can't Rain All the Time" - Jane Siberry (Graeme Revell, Jane Siberry) – 5:34

I think that says WIN without question. But, Zack doesn't give V for Vendetta enough credit.

C'mon....

The Crow?

The Dark Knight?

So one of the lead actors has to die to make it 'the best' ?????

Mystery Men was fantastic. Paul Reubens was incredible, and William Macy as the Shoveler? EPIC!

Dark Knight is perhaps the most overrated film of the last decade.

Agreed. I was asked what I liked best about the film after I saw it. I said, "It was filmed in Chicago."

The main reasons Dark Knight was "not all that".

The Batmobile sucked & the Batcave was replaced by a Lake Michigan warehouse.

That Damon Wayans superhero movie comes to mind, but I don't know if it's appropriate for this thread.
