Max Scherzer has been lights out so it should be a good one with him and Liriano tonight.

The Sox are 3.5 games back and the Twins play two games before the next Sox game. The Twins have to lose at least one of these next two games to keep it at 3.5. Then the Sox have to get it to 3 games or under before the three game series with the Twins starting Sept 14. After that it's a mad dash to the finish line. Go Tigers!

It looks like an exercise in futility (as I pointed out a while ago) but the Sox should get some credit for winning their second series in the last 8 . After watching the depleted Indians team this series, I have to say that I was wrong about them being fairly decent. They are bad. How the Sox are 7-8 on the year to the Indians is a mystery. Losing all those games earlier this season to that team will be 1 reason they lost the division. With the Twins winning 2-1 in 10 innings, they have moved to 21 over .500 and won yet another series and will look to sweep it tomorrow with Scott Baker facing the Tigers in the finale. The Twins now are on pace for 94 victories and the Sox would need to go 21-8 in their remaining games to equal that number.

What is the Cubs' record against the Pirates fuckface?

Sour grapes is right, probably about more than just his team being a piece of crap.

White Sox and futility?

Cubs = futility.

Hey, the Cubs are awful this year. I said they would not contend before the season started. You can't win the Kentucky Derby with a plow horse. The Cubs lost the season series to the lowly Pirates, just as the Sox have lost 8 of 15 to the lowly Indians. The thing is, the Cubs ineptitude was something I anticipated (though not quite to the degree of failure they have achieved) so their bad season didn't surprise me and was not painful . The Sox fans however, were fooled by a hot streak in interleague play, during which time the Sox beat up on the Cubs, Nationals, Pirates and Braves (the Braves being the only good team in that bunch- The others teams represent 3 of 2010's worst). That streak made some foolish fans believe the sox were better than they are. They are just 1 game over .500 in games VS A.L. competition. They were lucky they had some lousy teams on their interleague schedule and took advantage of the schedule to get on a roll against those poor teams. But it was a cruel hoax and I'm happy to point it out and burst the bubble for Sox fans.

Lil E. Tee was a Thoroughbred.... Was the horse a decided underdog when it won the Kentucky Derby in 1992..Yes, it was. But it wasn't a Clydesdale. Despite the oddsmakers making the horse an 18-1 underdog, the horse was a Thoroughbred and was not a "plow horse".

I popped the game on for a few minutes. Lot of Cleveland fans dressed as empty seats. Too bad Whistler wasn't a fan of the Tribe. Looks like he could have walked up to the ticket window on game day and got front row!

"Predicting" the Cubs will be bad or miss the World Series is a given and does not show your mastery of prediction, statistics or general knowledge. The team you think is so wonderful went 8-10 in Interleague play while the Sox went 15-3. So does that mean the Twins are really bad or the Sox are really good? You play the teams on your schedule and either you win or you lose. It's just that simple.

As far as calling Sox fans foolish for believing a team that went on a run like the Sox did this season could be a contender, you couldn't seem more stupid and bitter than you already are.

The only foolish fans are Cubs fans for believing that team could do anything but just plain suck.

I don't think the Cubs are "so wonderful" this year. I didn't think they would contend for even their division this season. I predicted a 3rd-4th place finish. It looks like even that was a bit optomistic.

The interleage record wasn't significant only in that the Sox went 15-3 in those games. It was also because they were fortunate in that they drew 3 of the worst teams of 2010 in those games. Beating the Cubs, Nationals and Pirates (along with 1 good team-the Braves) propelled them to the 15-3 record in interleague play that is the only reason they are remotely in contention. Being just 1 game over .500 in games VS A.L. competition and having lost 6 of their last 8 series' is a great indicator that holding out hope for the Sox in 2010 is foolish. I heard Bernstein this morning (while switching over during a commercial on ESPN) say that the mathematical likelihood the Twins will win the Central is 86% at this point. I don't know how he came up with that, but it sounds right.

Their offense is really struggling but they are getting unbelievable pitching. In their last 10 games the Twins have scored only 30 runs yet have a 6-4 record (the Sox have scored 58 runs and are also 6-4 in their last 10 games). The Sox have to hope the Twins offense continues to struggle while their pitching comes back to earth. Tonight is a good time to start.

That came from Bernsie's "Pakota" (sp) ratings that are calculated daily running millions of scenarios.

A few weeks ago, the Sox had that same rating and after the Boston series (providing they win that series) their percentage should move up due to their strength of schedule.

Tigers and Twins tied at 8 bottom of 9. If Ryan Perry comes into this game I'm going to drive to Minnesota and punch Jim Leland in the face.

Jim Thome just struck out ending the 10th. Still tied going into the 11th.

This is kinda wild...Brian Duensing who started game 1 of this series and went 6 1/3 innings, is in to begin the 11th inning!

the sox did what a good team--which is what they are--should do when they have a cupcake schedule, and that's win those games. and they did.

the frustrating thing is that they don't rise to the occasion sometimes when it presents itself. there was no reason at all to lose a series to baltimore. they weren't hurt, they weren't struggling. they had the bats to kill those 4+ ERA pitchers that baltimore was throwing at them.

the sox seem to have a penchant for this. they either love the drama or they submit to their inconsistencies.

the boston series is a good measuring stick. even though the saux aren't what they used to be, and like everybody is hurt, they're still a team you HAVE to beat and win the series. no more battin' the bunny around. it's time to be the guy in the rated R movie.

That game last night kicked the shit out of the Twins pitching staff. They rode Duensing for two innings a few days after he started and they burned Blackburn, who I believe was scheduled to start against Texas tonight. Their bullpen blew the game twice. And apparently Capps and Fuentes weren't available.

I guess thats good. The Sox pitching staff is likely going to be fucked by that hurricane too.

It was curious the way Gardenhire used his pitching staff last night. Using Jeff Manship 4 innings is fine, as he will probably take Bakers spot in the rotation if Baker is unable to take his next start. But later to use Duensing 2 nights after his last start??? He should have just used some kid up from AAA and take whatever he gets from him. Now the rotation is screwed up. Of course, if Guerrier hadn't blown the save, Duensing wouldn't have been called upon. But I was surprised he would make such a move with 4 weeks left in the regular season.

I'll be off to the lake house this afternoon, so you all will have to get along without my wonderful contributions for a few days. (I predict -I did say it like I meant it Murph!!... )
