That didn't happen in any other city, even those with QB problems larger than the Bears.

I think losing that 2nd round pick this year was a lot worse.

How do you know it didn't? Do you listen to sports talk radio in all of these cities or read sports message boards from these cities?

What about a potential Favre, Maclin, Dez Bryant, and Knox vs. Cutler and Knox.

This of course assumes that the Bears sign Brett Favre and trade Orton for a fifth round pick which is right in line with the market value for a player like him(see Brady Quinn trade).

Cutler was young enough and looked like the type of QB you take that chance on when he was in Denver. There were a few games where he played that way with the Bears too. The thing is I believe the Bears may have made the playoffs last year with Orton and Maclin. Cutler lost 4 or 5 games with his play. A better game manager and a guy that already knew the offense could have made a difference.

I don't remember any city being up in arms about missing on him especially once they saw the price the Bears paid.

Washington.
That's probably the city that was up in arms the most. Ironically, also another player that Cutler performed similarly to last year. I guess we'll see if McNabb works out there better than Cutler does here.

Depends on your definition I guess. I mean, I'm sure someone in Washington said "Why didn't they get Cutler!" but I don't remember seeing many articles like that and everyone was reading anything they could about Cutler both nationally and locally at the time.

It always surprised me that Minnesota wasn't more in the mix for Cutler. It seemed to be a perfect fit.

So you win, they were rioting in the streets in Washington because they missed on Jay Cutler.

The Vikings wouldn't have had a QB as good as Orton or Campbell to give them in return. That would have been a nasty team to see for the next decade. Ultimately the Broncos made the deal with the Bears because they believed Orton is better than Campbell. That's debatable but it worked out for the Bears.

I did my best on google. I didn't really find anything saying that they totally screwed up by not getting him. I promise I tried hard to find it.

These were probably the two most relevant ones I found.

And you know as well as I do that I did not mean up in arms meant people would be rioting in the streets.

But I have no doubt people in Chicago would have been pissed about it, this message board would be full of posts about what an idiot Angelo was for passing up that deal. And I have no doubt the situation was similiar in Washington.

Yeah because the sports fans in a city always agree with the sports columnists in a city, right? Nice try.

That's all I have to go on. I can't even find an article that states that the fans are up in arms about not getting Jay Cutler. I can find plenty of columns on the trade in each direction in the Denver papers.

That's not real surprising tho, is it? Do you think there would be sports columnists in this city who would be talking about how upset the fans were if the Bears passed on Cutler? I doubt it. But I still think the sports talk radio air waves would be full of it and this board would be loaded down with it.

I guess like our friend Bucky Chris I'll steal a Bernsteinism and use it as my own in an attempt to look like I know what I'm talking about.

I have no evidence that people in Washington were really upset that they missed on Jay Cutler.

Go to ESPN and look on the Washington message boards.

Wait, I just realized something. I am not supposed to have any original thoughts on here. I better step back and wait for Mr. Reason or Spaulding to post so I can just +1 them and post a smiley.

http://www.thehogs.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=31347 I can't stand the ESPN message boards but I did google for Washington Redskins boards and found this.

In fairness, most of it seems to be the standard fan mentality of "We didn't really want him anyways".

Frank Ohmyfuckinggod and Windmill Williams can't protect a pile of horse shit. A hall of fame qb in his prime wouldn't be successful behind this line.

So Cutler in his prime won't be successful, and Angelo didn't fix the O line, but got Peppers. Boy Angelo's a dope
