In defense of The Brand (for some reason), the Indians played the White Sox pretty tough...much tougher than the Red Sox, for example. I wouldn't call the Indians decent necessarily, but any one of those three games could have gone the other direction. It's tough to use that series as evidence of the Indians crapulence; there are plenty of better examples.

With the team depleted as it was, the Sox were able to sweep a team that still leads the season series 8-7 in their last meeting. If the Sox indeed lose the division, it will likely be in large part to losing too many games to teams like Cleveland, Baltimore and Kansas city they should have beaten more often.

Well, without Kerry Wood, Russell Branyon (sic) and Austin Kearns they clearly are a rudderless ship

Okay...so lets say the Indians are just a Godawful, shitty team. I was wrong in every sense to ever think they were halfway decent. They have still beaten the Sox 8 games to 7 this season. Feel better now??

That doesn't make them "a pretty decent team" as you called them.

I just said that I was wrong. they are a Godawful, shitty team. Yet that Godawful, shitty team has beaten the Sox in their season series to date. Do you feel better to think they have been beaten by a crappy team?? Does it warm your heart to know they may well lose the division/a chance at the playoffs, due to a poor record against a shit team?

yeah, just think if the Cubs had done better than .333 against one of the bottom 3 franchises of the past 20 years

oh, that's right...they'd still be nowhere in contention. thanks for playing.

The Cubs suck this year. I knew before the season began it was gonna be bad. Had they beaten the Pirates 10/15, rather than losing 10/15, would they be contenders?? No! Their record against the Pirates doesn't matter. They were not going anywhere. The Sox record against the Indians may matter greatly though, because had they gone 10-5 rather than 7-8 to date, they would be in a virtual tie with Minnesota right now, at 80-57 (Minnesota is 81-57). Instead, they are 77-60. That matters!

No. It warms my heart to know that all of the idiot* Cubs fans (such as yourself) can do at this point of the baseball season is root for the Twins/ against the Sox, and piss and moan about what Manny Ramierz says/ wears/ does, etc. That is a sure sign of an excellent baseball season

Right...so you're saying that the Cubs are just a shitty team regardless. Got it. Can't beat good teams OR bad teams. Yeah the Sox may very well regret those losses against sub .500 teams. but in a season that is this long (162 games. Plus 1 if there is a playoff) of course you can always look back at games you "should have won". Fact is the Cubs can't beat anyone, good or bad. The Sox may have lost some to poor teams but obviously they've beaten enough "good" teams to be right in the pennant race.

Yes, the Cubs are just a lousy team. The GM sucks and made too many bad moves over the last 3 seasons to expect they would contend this year.

The Sox HAVE beaten good teams enough to contend. The problem is that they have lost far too many games vs lousy teams, they should have beaten more often. That will cost them a playoff spot.

You've gotta be absolutely high, drunk, and/or dead (if not all three) to think the Sox have any chance to beat out the Rays for the WC.

The division? Yes, a slight chance. But no, no, no, no, no to the WC.

Really??

6 games back with 25 to play?? Not likely, but a chance.

Why why why?

a 3.5 GB margin in the division is a slight chance?
But 6 GB in the wild card is insurmountable ?
it's not at all. like i said earlier, the Rays have a much tougher schedule remaining than the Twins do. It's not at all out of reach that the Rays could go on a skid here.

a far better team than who.? the White Sox? that doesn't really matter here since they don't play each other again that I"m aware of.

and as it stands, the Rays have a pretty tough schedule remaining including 2 left vs. Boston and 7 vs. the Yankees. even if they're a better team than the Sox theoretically, they still have to win a lot of tough games

Yes, far better than the Sox. What we have is a large sample size with their records through 137 games. People get so damn enamored over a win streak. Averages will average out, and the Sox will come back to where they should be, which is in contention with Minnesota and approximately 5-6 games behind Tampa.

I have not said a thing about what Manny says. I don't care what he says quite frankly. I expressed before he was aquired that I thought it was a good idea to go get him. His contract is up in a few weeks, he's better than what they had at DH and he infuses the team and fan base with some enthusiasm/hope. That Aunt Jemima do-rag, thats something I commented on. Reinsdorf ought to have ordered him to cut those dred locks off. You cant tell guys like A.J. and Crede they have to cut their hair and then let Manny do what he wants. He's opened a can of worms there.

There is currently some programming on the history channel now you may be more interested in than stirring up shit with the sox fans.

Actually, if you extrapolate each teams record based upon their seasonal records to date, the Rays should win 98 games, the Twins 95 and the White Sox 91. The Sox would finish 2 games behind the Twins and 3.5 behind the Rays for the wild card. I think you may be right about the Rays though and would guess they finish with maybe 96 wins. But I'm gonna guess the Sox only win 90, maybe less.

So what? If the Sox fininsh 16-9 and the Rays finish 6-19, the Sox will win the wild card.

Agreed that the Rays are better, but to say no chance is foolish.

So you think a team that has now gone 31-11 in their past 42 games and has won (13) or tied (1) (vs Rays) every series since the All-Star break but 1 (Rangers at the end of last month) , was at all likely to go 6-19 in their last 25 games??

* with wins in the first 2 games of their series with the Royals they have clinched that series too. So make it a 14-1-1 record in series since the All-Star break.

Damn you are stupid or this is a new baiting people into arguments gimmick. He said to say 'no chance is foolish.' Which means he correctly stated that the Sox have more than a 0% chance to win the WC

Using that logic, the Tigers (Cubs too for that matter have not been eliminated yet) still have a chance too. Hell, they have not been mathematically eliminated yet. If the Twins and Sox lose all their remaining games (except the ones they play vs one another-somebody has to win) and the Tigers win every game from here on, the Tigers can take the division!!!

You see....thats ridiculous. Holding out hope the Sox will be able to win their division or the wildcard, is silly too. Not as silly as beliving the Tigers will do the same, but still...foolish.

Steve, just last season, the Twins were 3 games out with 4 to play. The Twins won the division.

There is still time, esepcially with a head to head series next week. I know you can't admit that, but its quite possible that you will still be able to root against the Sox in October.

Yeah, but the Twins won 16 of their last 20 and were a very good team down the stretch, PLUS the Tigers fell apart at the end, losing 4 of the last 5. For this miracle you seek to happen, both teams must do their part. Expecting a team that has lost just 1 series since the All-Star break and is 31/42 of late, to fall apart is a S-T-R-E-T_C-H. Plus, the Sox are just 14-15 in their last 29 games, so expecting them to go on another great run (without the Cubs, Nationals and Pirates involved this time) is also a S-T-R-E-T-C-H.

Lastly, it makes me    to hear Sox fans talk about the 3 game series left with the Twins and act like they are just gonna sweep that series. The Twins are 8-4 against the Sox this season and it's likely the Twins will win at least one, probably 2 of those games. For the Sox to have any chance, they will NEED to sweep, which will put a lot of pressure on their players. I would bet against a sweep by the Sox. If you are unwilling to bet, deep down you know that the chances for the Sox are slim and none and slim just left town.

I'll be rooting against the White sox in October, but only because the final series with the Indians is scheduled for October 1st-3rd.
