He's not built for the Martz system!
It was doomed to fail from the start!
Its not his fault

This guy is the Teflon Quarterback. Never have I seen a Chicago athlete underperform to such a degree without being savaged by the fans and the media. Is it really beyond the realm of possibility that he just sucks?

I understand why B&b are in his corner. They have a lot invested in him- like any credibility they might have in analyzing football players. To listen to them you'd think he won two or three Super Bowls in Denver before coming to Chicago. And they've already formulated his excuse for this season by blaming the Martz offense before a play has even been run. Kudos to Goff for calling them on it yesterday. He pretty much straight out asked them what the fuck Cutler has ever done. It was great when Jason said that if Cutler had done what he was supposed to he wouldn't have to be worrying about Mike Martz. li'l danny's equivocation was priceless.

Anyway, I'm only a pro football fan in the most cursory way. I don't have a strong opinion on Cutler one way or another. But although they are completely different types, it's certainly not ridiculous for someone to suggest that Orton is at least as "good" at this point. I can almost hear Mike North and Boilermaker Rick cackling in the background.

Jay Cutler is still a better QB. Kyle Orton is just better at using his talents to be effective and Cutler quite frankly under performs his ability. There does come a point where an under performing QB never figures it out and that's just what he is. I still think that Cutler has the potential to be a top five QB.

Everyone will turn on him eventually and when it happens it will be ugly.

Maybe it's just me, but I had lots of friends (and even family) turn on him last year.

They just "hated Jay Cutler".

I did as well, but then I started to hear a lot of

-He's got no time to throw!
-He's got no recievers!

Eventually though, he becomes like Alonzo Spellman where what people think he can do isn't what he really can do.

Well both of these are true too. When he had a better line and Brandon Marshall he had a good year. Bears fans are giving him more of a break than normal because of the extremely bleak QB history of the Bears so they want to believe he is good even though his results on the field have been showing otherwise. For the record I am starting to get very nervous that the most apt comparision to Cutler is going to be Jeff George when it is all said and done.

Cutler doesn't suck but he does need to have his feet held to the fire if/when he has a bad game. I want him to do well like many Bears fans but if he needs a perfect storm to perform at a high level then he really isn't the franchise QB many of us thought he was. I hope he puts it together consistently this year.

Both are true then play above it.

I really want him to do well. If he has time and the WR's aren't complete morons, it should work. The problem is the Bears O-line is old and/or bad and I think the WR's are all kinda dumb.

The "play above it" argument makes no sense. It's like telling a pitcher to throw his fastball 5 miles an hour faster because the defense behind him sucks and his team can't hit.

Chicago has never before had a big time QB & surrounded him with a pile of shit for team mates, while the head coach drops $40 Million guaranteed on a DL who averages 10 sacks per season.
The OL & WR's are not acceptable.

I have to laugh at everyone saying "I want him to do well". All Bears fans do! Even the biggest critic of any Bears player wishes they would suddenly become an all pro. I think Johnny Knox is becoming quite overrated which is saying a lot because he's not really rated that high but I hope he becomes Jerry Rice.

If only Spaulding were here to call all of you out on your hatred of Jay Cutler everything would be complete.

I agree I think his inability to overcome adversity is what is keeping him from being a good to great QB and instead a mediocre to good QB. Plus him crapping the bed in the red zone is a pretty scary warning sign. It's probably cause of the Diabeeeetus though.

Knox had 2 decent games last year & all of a sudden he's the savior. It has gotten so bad that whenever a Bear player show any sign of being decent, the Bears organization & the fans go overboard.

Agreed. Brady did it for years with horrible WR's. I think when the season is over Rodgers could be the best QB in the NFL. I honestly don't see he being worse than #2. Cutler also has that type of talent but he doesn't appear to have what it takes between the ears to reach that level of play.

Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady have had better coaches then Lovie Smith. Don't let the coaching go unnoticed here.

That may be true for Tom Brady but there is no reason to believe that is true for Aaron Rodgers. If anything, that's a tie.

Really? Did McCarthy call a timeout with 1 second left in the 4th quarter in Arizona last January?

The Packers have also been doing all they can to fix the offensive line the past three seasons...5 of their O lineman have 0-3 years experience. They drafted 3 O-linemen this year alone.

Wonderlic Scores:

Aaron Rodgers 35
Tom Brady 33
Peyton Manning 28
Drew Brees 28
Jay Cutler 26
Kyle Orton 26

I am sure that McCarthy has made a boneheaded coaching decision too in his time here.

Maybe instead of plays we should discuss playoff records or Super Bowl appearances.

I believe the Bears have only drafted 1 or 2 OL in the last 4 or 5 drafts. Someone on the Score mentioned this over the weekend.

While I dont condone the Bears plan for this team, thats a different issue.

A lot of guys can be great when everything around them is good (See Rex Grossman). The good ones are good no matter what.

Good point. Walter was great for many years while being surrounded by garbage, although his OL was better, despite Dennis Lick jumping offsides 3 times each game.
