Looks like he's retiring at the end of the year. Don Mattingly to take over:
Quote:
Don Mattingly will replace Joe Torre as manager of the Dodgers at the end of the season.

Mattingly has been the Dodgers hitting coach since the middle of the 2008 season, which was Torre's first with the team. Before that, they were together with the New York Yankees.

The Dodgers announced earlier this season that Mattingly, who has never been a manager, would guide a team in the Arizona fall league, fueling speculation he was being prepared to take over the major league club.

I'm praying he doesn't come to the North Side. He's exactly what the Cub don't need.

He looks like the white Don Baylor in the dugout.

Congratulations to the great Don "Donnie Baseball" Mattingly, on his promotion to Manager of the Los Angeles (nee Brooklyn) Dodgers!

I do not care what anyone says, Don Mattingly was a Great and Glorious Yankee, and is one of my favorite players ever. I will now root for the Los Angeles Dodgers as my National League team.

Mattingly=Mark Grace with a short RF porch which turned flyouts & doubles into HR's.

Jimmy Pasta:

All I have said was that Don Mattingly was one of my favorite players ever, and you have needlessly attempted to start an argument with me by comparing him to Mark Grace.

I do not get it. Mark Grace was no schmo, and, as I recall it, was a pretty decent ballplayer himself.

Everybody loves to pick on stoneroses86, the non-conformist. Well guess what: I am a man, I am over forty (40), and I can take it!

It just seems to easy to be a Yankees fan. Mattingly was a great hitter who benefitted by the dimensions of his park, that is all.

I accept your apology. At least you did not call him gay, like my newest and fiercest enemy, Johnny Fontane, would have.

I am not doing any "schtick" when it comes to my love for The Glorious New York Yankees. Calling you my enemy, however, was a comment made in jest.
