Nothing would make me happier. They were the first professional game I ever attended since I was actually born in Hartford. My first sports jersey was a green Sean Burke. For the casual fan, if you thought Go Cubs Go or Bear Down was annoying, I present to you the almighty Brass Bonanza:

Dan,
One of my all-time favorite leagues, the WHA. Cool uniforms and a nice mix of NHL talent and minor league/pro journeyman made for a great league. A league that spawned the Great One,in Wayne Gretzky.

I worked in East Hartford and went to several Whale games back in the late 80s/early 90s. I really don't think Hartford can support an NHL team anymore. There are some diehard hockey fans but not enough I think.

You're right about the song, Dan. Always my favorite.

Wore out my copy of NHL '94 playing with the Whalers just to hear that song again and again.

I think Hartford could be viable for the league, especially if the league continues on the trend it's currently on despise Betteman's best efforts. Attendance/profits are generally up across the league as a result of some improved marketing and just a better on ice product.

I think the NHL would do wise to get a team back in Hartford and Quebec as soon as possible.

Breakfast, shmreakfast. Look at the score, for Christ's sake. It's only the second period and I'm up 12 to 2. Breakfasts come and go, Renee, but Hartford, "the Whale," they only beat Vancouver once, maybe twice in a lifetime.

From your keyboard to god's eyes, Dan. Winnepeg also needs to be on that list. If they don't want to expand, Nashville doesn't need a team and the state of Florida doesn't need two.

The Hartford Whalers...Used to play at the Hartford Civic Center, nicknamed "The Mall" before relocating to Raleigh, NC and becoming the Carolina Hurricanes...

There's the team that can be moved back to Hartford!

Seeing that Winnipeg couldn't sell out the Hawks/Lightning exhibition, I find it quite the longshot that they would be on any expansion list.

I do agree on the Florida thing; hell, they can't support two baseball teams, either.

That might might have to do with the fact that it was an exhibition game between Tampa Bay and half the Champion Blackhawks.

It seems outside of college football, basketball and the MiAmi badDolphins Floridians don't have time for sports.

And they still got "14,092 customers"(1) not bad for and exhibition game, and considering that venue holds about 15,000, I'd say it was a good day. But then again, if you consider a team like Toronto, who schedules 9 preseason games because of the high demand, perhaps a hockey-less town, which is hungry for another team, should expect a sell out... it's kind of hard to judge.

In my opinion, they should be on the list for expansion/relocation, but not before Hartford(for obvious musical reasons)

That kind of reminds me of Casino Royale by Herb Albert. This clip takes a while to load and the song starts at about 2:44.
