I know he's had a couple of rough outings ... but I really think that is a mistake unless you sign Dunn to an extension.

I'd consider offering the Cubs next to nothing for Silva and taking on his contract. The Sox will most likely need a veteran pitcher to start the year next year while Peavy take an extended spring.

It was more of a suggestion, Apologist, on baseballprospectus.com. They had 5 deals they'd like to see made before the MLB Trade Deadline, and the one you're referring was #4 on their list. Bernsy made note of it in the "Boers & Bernstein" blog at 670thescore.com and discussed it a little bit Friday afternoon during the "Bud Light Tavern Tour" stop at the Cubby Bear in Lincolnshire.

Edwin Jackson-Adam Dunn Three-Team Rumor
By Tim Dierkes [July 26 at 1:27pm CST]
1:27pm: The Diamondbacks have not yet held three-way talks with the Nationals and White Sox, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Still, they will "not hesitate to deal Edwin Jackson if they get what they want." ESPN's Buster Olney adds via Twitter, "The Nats have made progress in their effort to trade prospects for Jackson."

11:43am: It wouldn't be late July without rumors of intriguing three-team deals. ESPN's Jayson Stark:

Rumblings continue to surface about a possible three-team deal involving the Nationals, White Sox and Diamondbacks that would send Edwin Jackson to Washington, Adam Dunn to Chicago and a bunch of young pitchers to Arizona.

We know the Nationals like Jackson and the White Sox like Dunn, so perhaps the D'Backs can facilitate a deal and further stock up on prospects. Jackson, who is no stranger to three-team deals, has a 5.01 ERA, 7.0 K/9, and 4.0 BB/9 in 20 starts for Arizona. On the plus side, he turns 27 in September, averages 94 mph on his fastball, and is signed for next year. As he was with Dan Haren, D'Backs interim GM Jerry Dipoto might be forced to sell low on Jackson

I would think the Nats would want and be able to get more than just Jackson for Dunn

i think thats a win for the nats if this goes through because jackson is under controll for another 2-3 years and is a soild # 3 in the n.l. plus dunn could walk away and leave the nats with just draft picks

Jackson will make $8.35M next year and is a free agent after the season. There have been reports that the Nats are interested in Jackson and I'm starting to think someone is trying to connect the dots with the 3 team trade scenario. This one is probably headed to the internet rumor graveyard.

The word is the White Sox are out of the running. It's down to the Rays and Giants.

I think this is a subtle way to tell Rizzo he needs to come down from his demands.

The Nationals have been telling teams they are willing to talk about moving slugger Adam Dunn, but in a couple of instances, they have asked for established stars, like Carlos Quentin, in return. In other words, the team interested in acquiring Dunn to fill a hole would have to create another to get him. "When you hear that kind of request, it drives you nuts," says one GM. "It's a nonstarter." Fact is, some GMs are just more reasonable than others. (In a recent Mag poll of GMs, Williams and the Cubs Jim Hendry were rated the easiest to negotiate with, the Giants Brian Sabean and the Dodgers Ned Colletti the most difficult.)

The rankings are not officiall but it looks like Adam Dunn will qualify as a type B free agent. This means if the Nats offer Dunn arbitration and he declines they will only receive 1 compensation pick between the 1st and 2nd round.

With all the offers he received and declined that stupid greedy bastard Mike Rizzo will have a lot of splaining to do if Dunn walks away and the Nats only end up with 1 draft pick to show for it.

If he is only a type B then what is D Lee? The kind that doesn't command any compensation?

If you sign him they actually give you draft picks to compensate for how much he sucks

Lee is also a type B and has the same ranking as Dunn.

David Ortiz - 75.000
Johnny Damon - 74.359
Derrek Lee - 74.167
Adam Dunn - 74.167
Hideki Matsui - 73.333

The difference is there is no way the Braves offer him arbitration because if he accepts he would be guaranteed at least 80% of his 2010 salary ($13M.) One draft pick is not worth the risk.
