It's too bad this shit fuck organization will find a way to ruin Rice 3B Anthony Rendon (the next Evan Longoria). The Pirates have had 18 consecutive losing seasons with no end in sight. Their run of futility while playing in the worst division in baseball is truly amazing.

The Pittsburgh Pirates may have a relatively new ballpark, PNC Park, but that's about it. That franchise has been irrevelant since a certain dickhead named Barry Bonds, Andy Van Slyke and the 1992 team lost to the Atlanta Braves in the National League Championship Series. The Pirates may have some young players today such as CF Andrew McCutcheon, LF Lastings Millidge, 3B Pedro Alvarez & 2B Neil Walker to name a few, but there have been issues about what the Pirates and other small market teams do with the TV money that I thought was allocated equally among all the teams in Bud Selig's Major League Baseball. There have also been issues with whether small market teams also have the scouting and minor league resources unlike their big market counterparts. I wish "Commissioner" Selig would look into what teams like the Pirates continue to do to remain really, really bad year in & year out.

UMN, it's the business of baseball...Just ask the Nationals' Stephen Strasburg, the White Sox' Gordon Beckham & the Cubs' Starlin Castro.

I was in San Diego when the 2004 draft occurred remember some pissed off padres fans because they took player that wasn't rated high at all just so they didn't have to open their wallet. He was a hometown kid so I guess that is how they were going to justify their inability to pay the going rate for a true top prospect. This was a shitty first round though, wow, lots of misses there.

Quote:
The Padres' selection of Bush in 2004 was controversial from the start. Jeff Niemann, Stephen Drew, and Jered Weaver were considered the top talents in the draft, but San Diego did not want to pay the premium bonus any of them would command as the top overall choice. Instead, they decided to take Bush, who was a talented high school senior from the San Diego area, but in no way near the prospect as the other candidates. The Padres' decision to bypass the top several prospects was widely criticized by baseball experts and fans in San Diego and nationwide.

Nick Adenhart, who was selected in the 14th round by the Anaheim Angels, was the first member of this draft class to die, as he was killed in a car accident a day after his only start of the 2009 season.

That is random for a draft wiki entry...and quite morbid...

The guy who killed Nick Adenhart after an Angels' game was just found guilty and could spend the rest of his life in prison.

dude, this is sorely lacking BITE in that you forgot to mention jose tabata under their young players. lastings milledge comes from the mets system by way of the washington natinals(sp = correct) system. who can forget lastings' first HR at shea stadium when he did a victory lap high fiving fans in teh first row all around the park? classic stuff.

pedro alvarez has been yeah for the last ~7-14 days, with something like a 11 game hit streak and 16 RBIs in the last week or two. the problem isn't their top end position players (jason bay, NATE MCLOUTH, aramis ramirez, brian giles, and others come to mind) it's their inability to get any starting pitching going... kris benson? zach duke, ROSS OHLENDORF... i mean who else i'm straining myself coming up with ballyhooed pirates pitchers... at least you hear of andrew mccutchen, pedro alvarez, and others... what do they have coming by the way of pitchers? they can do a decent bullpen but they can't get SP for the life of them... ian snell? paul maholm was decent for a short little time. hell tom gorzellany was decent but was tradebait. they don't have any SP whatsoever and i honestly cant remember hearing about the next pirates phenom to come up the pipeline like "ok let's see what this kid has got"

is littlefield still their GM? i mean, whoever it is combined with their farm director is to blame cuz they can't maintain any pitching whatsoever. oliver perez? i mean, comeon...

Here is the draft order for 2011. This is a very deep draft and as long as the Cubs don't go cheap again they will get a very good player at #9.

1 Pittsburgh Pirates
2 Seattle Mariners
3 Arizona Diamondbacks
4 Baltimore Orioles
5 Kansas City Royals
6 Washington Nationals
7 Arizona Diamondbacks compensation for not signing Barrett Loux
8 Cleveland Indians
9 Chicago Cubs
10 San Diego Padres compensation for not signing Karsten Whitson
11 Houston Astros
12 Milwaukee Brewers
13 New York Mets
14 Florida Marlins
15 Milwaukee Brewers compensation for not signing Dylan Covey
16 Los Angeles Dodgers
17 Los Angeles Angels
18 Oakland Athletics
19 Detroit Tigers
20 Colorado Rockies
21 Toronto Blue Jays
22 St. Louis Cardinals
23 Chicago White Sox
24 Boston Red Sox
25 San Diego Padres
26 Texas Rangers
27 Cincinnati Reds
28 Atlanta Braves
29 San Francisco Giants
30 Minnesota Twins
31 New York Yankees
32 Tampa Bay Rays
33 Philadelphia Phillies

Keyser, who is on your radar for the Cubs and Sox with their first round picks?

It's really early but you have to think a really good college pitcher will be available at #9. Geritt Cole (UCLA) and Matt Purke (TCU) will more than likely be top 5 picks but the Cubs could get Jack Armstrong (Vandy), Sonny Gray (Vandy), Taylor Jungmann (Texas), Danny Hultzen (Virginia) or Alex Meyer (Kentucky). High schoolers Daniel Norris, Archie Bradley and Dylan Bundy could also be available.

I would LOVE if Jackie Bradley Jr (OF South Carolina) fell to the Sox at #23 but that is doubtful.

The Cubs can use Preston Tucker 1b out of Florida possibly.

He's gonna be a good one but it depends on if they are serious about moving Colvin to 1B. Even if they keep him in RF it would be difficult to pass up one of these college pitchers. They can use some starters because it looks like Cashner is staying in the bullpen and Samardzija is bound to go there. Archer made a nice jump but they will need more than just him to fill out the rotation after Silva, Big Dumbass and Dempsters contracts expire.
