I get email updates from a news station down here, and here is the lastest one I got:

Quote:
A source close to KSPR informed us Chicago White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy will undergo a highly rare shoulder surgery this offseason that could be career ending. The surgery has only been performed 5 times with 1 player returning to baseball. Recovery time is a minimum of 22 months. The 29-year old righty started only 17 games this season before being shut down on July 7th.

I could not find anything else about this, anyone else know anything?

If this story is accurate about Jake Peavy, White Sox General Manager Ken Williams is getting a bucket and ready to vomit. He traded lefty starter Clay Richard & righty reliever Aaron Poreda to the supposedly cash-strapped Padres to get Peavy in the first place. I'm not so sure Peavy will be ready for Spring Training in the wake of a rare injury to the back of his throwing shoulder. This doesn't look good by any means...

I think he means Anyway or Regardless...not besides

Like, Ryne Sandberg is not ready to manage a big league club, besides he's getting re married next week.

I recently read that Peavy was way ahead of schedule and was going to start playing soft toss in a couple weeks. This is sad news if he had a major setback and requires another surgery.

It's also possible that in RFDC's Middle Missouri Hell on Earth, the news is 3 months behind the rest of the country.

Peavy might not even be able to do the towel drill ever again.

Prior will probably never pitch in the majors again. Comparing these two guys is silly. If both never pitched again Peavy would be head and shoulders(pun intended) above Prior.

Even though Mark Prior signed a minor league deal with the Rangers, I think that's as far as he went. Once upon a time, a lot of the Cubs' hopes, like or not, were pinned on Prior & Kerry Wood...

Prior's 2003 was as good as any season Peavy ever had.

He would have won the Cy Young if not for admitted obvious steroid user Eric Gagne

To say nothing of the Petco effect

Remember when they said Prior's problem was "exceptional looseness in his shoulder"?
I think he had looseness in his screws.
Not a fair comparison to Peavy.

Well obviously Peavy has a more accomplished career, but Chile made it sound like he achieved nothing.

Thats not true.
His 2003 season was nothing short of spectacular.

On the good side, 22 months gives him just enough time for when Edwin Jackson moves on and Hudson is with the Diamondbacks for five more years.

I've never liked his delivery. His herky jerky motion looks awkward to me. He'll have to come back with a new motion. He will never be right again. MAYbe a closer but never an every 5th day srarter

If Hendry traded for Peavy and then gave him an extension, there'd be 4 threads about it right now.

I'd agree if the injury was a torn labrum (aka death to pitchers) but he had a detached muscle behind the shoulder. It's a very rare injury but IF it stays attached and he's able to strengthen the shoulder I'd think he'd be able to return to his old style of pitching. The article I read a week ago said he was 2 months ahead of schedule and will begin soft tossing in a couple weeks.

I think I'm gonna make a "shoutout" for Hendry for not doing this.

Great idea! Thanks Darko!

And you are all basing this off of a report from the world renown KSPR out of Bumfuck, MO.

Who knows.
Alls I can say is I'd never, ever count on Peavy. You just ... cannot do it.
