He's been on this beat for years. I don't see why length of tour has so much substance for Mac's thoughts on where the Beatles music and influence rank all-time. Touring is great, no doubt. But, if you tour for years and years and years playing the same songs all the time does that somehow make you more credible in the music universe? In my opinion, I don't think I'm knocking the Beatles on the whole touring thing for where they rank in music history. Anyone else?

I dont really listen to Danny Mac. Is he actually saying that the Beatles are not good because they didnt tour often?

He's probably right, maybe they shouldve just gone on tour year after year playing the same shitty songs over and fucking over until they were as dead as Brian Jones while gouging their fans and charging premiuim prices to hear , oh lets say, Jumpin Jack Flash for the 300th mind-numbing time.

I don't even know who I like more between Stones and Beatles. I just find this argument for putting the Beatles way below the Stones interesting. I don't agree with it, but wondered where everyone else stood on it.

Some of my favorite moments of living are at amazing concerts, up close to the band, and experiencing the music. But the Beatles just seemed to pump out so much relevant music in a short amount of time it makes me wonder if we should give a damn or not about their lack of touring.

Each time that Richards and Jagger keep dragging their moldy asses on the stage just helps strengthen the fact that the Beatles were far and away the better band.

If the argument is the more a band tours the better they are, then the person presenting said argument, they're just country-dumb.

If the argument is the longevity of a band performing live shows how great they are, then be sure to ignore the death of half the Beatles to help keep the illusion working.

Love the Stones, no doubt. Asked to listen to a random song by one or the other, it's probably a 50/50 proposition. The Stones didn't innovate at all, they rolled and adapted with the changes. The Beatles cut a path as a musical as well as a touring/performing band.

That all said, how somebody thinks it's an intellectual debate to argue "who's greatest" baffles me.

Besides, neither group were talented for shit compared to Steely Dan.

With you on that and the whole ranking thing to begin with. However, it just amuses me that has such an influence on Mac's thought of who is better.

Led-Zeppelin toured constantly. From '69 thru '75 they were absolutely relentless on the road.

They also tended to be one of the sloppiest live acts around, so touring doesn't necessarily mean anything.

I prefer Zep, but to say one better than the other is all opinion. Not to speak for Mac, but his stance seems to be they became studio musicians. Part of a rock band is to get out and play for people the way it was meant to be.
Beatles became bad when too many drugs and Lennon getting to wierd.
Zep became too hit or miss on albums.
Stones should have hung it up a LONG time ago.

And as studio musicains, DT is right, the Dan were musically superior to the Beatles. Plus the put on a good show to this day.
