Nobody I know was inspired to start a band because of the Stones or The Beatles. Most people I know started bands because of late 80s and early 90s music. you're right...not everyone can sing. nut Jagger is evidence of that. :P

1. Any gay dancing is probably inspired by Freddie Mercury, not Mick Jagger.
2. I bet the bands that inspired your friends' bands were inspired by the Stones and the Beatles.

What I marvel at the most when it comes to the Beatles was their age. It's astonishing to me, that they accomplished all they did as a group before the age of thirty. To deliver what many believe to be (me included) some of the greatest albums of all time in such a short period, all the while having your every move, both personally and musically, scrutinized is beyond belief. Sure there was pettiness and silly in-fighting, but I think their maturity was, and is severely underrated. On a side note, George Martin never gets the full credit he deserves.

I know that I am out on a limb with this opinion, but hopefully, as time marches on, other people will also form the opinion that the Beatles were the single most influential band in the history of music. I wonder if any of today's musicians site the Beatles as an influence???
I feel so alone in my love for the Beatles.

As for the Stones, they aren't even in my top 10, & rank behind the Beach Boys, LZ, Yes, Stevie Wonder, & Frank Zappa among others.

Definitely. I'm not a big blues fan, but If you're a fan of RJ, Todd Rundgren (I'm a huge fan) just finished the "Todd Rundgren's Johnson" tour, where he played all RJ tunes. You can find a bunch of clips on you tube. A CD will be released soon.

While Johnson was certainly original & is sited as an influence my many, I doubt that he was a phenomena in the mid 1930's like the Beatles were in the early 1960's. This cat only lived to be 27 years young. Its a shame so little is known about him & his life.

the thing is, matches, they were doing what no other band was doing--and i don't mean crossing genres. but making it POPULAR. i don't want to get into this because this is the most asinine "debate" there is. the beatles reinvented rock and roll. the verse/chorus/bridge/verse format was perfected by them and used by just about every "pop/rock" band there is today. whether that's good or bad, that's still a hell of an influence. they also were very good lyricists and extremely talented musicians. they're overplayed, and their worst songs are overrated. but if you listen to a beatles record, you can appreciate how eclectic they were...at a time when it wasn't good to be eclectic.

i still maintain '65-'68 was the best time for popular american music. you had "rubber soul" followed by "pet sounds" followed by "sgt. peppers" and stuck in between you had "blonde on blonde" and "revolver". AND "good vibrations" among other things.

Methinks you excuse a great deal of idiocy that was cultivated in that pile of shit ...

Congratulations on not dying, though I suppose that's not much coming from someone who gets tired taking a pee.

IB has statistical analysis that proves that the Archie's, Monkeys, & the Partridge Family were more influential than the Beatles.

Also, can we ask him to also stop posting about football?
Thanks.

Those of you sympathetic to the Beatles ought to look to who THEY considered their competition, Brian Wilson & the Beach Boys. You should start at 'Pet Sounds' thru 'Friends'. There are bootlegs and the 2004 version of 'Smile'. All highly recommended.

Actually, more like one guy saying he wasn't sure about something and a bunch of other guys acting like the first guy had just suggested something as outlandish as the moon being made of green cheese and then insisting they knew something they couldn't possibly know... and then a lot of stupid pictures and smilies in between.

Of course most Baby Boomers are going to put the Beatles on a pedestal. But they often act as if nothing that ever comes after could possibly be as great. I don't think that's true. Of course, the vast majority of those Boomers wouldn't know what hip hop was and they'd quickly dismiss it anyway. You can't find the cutting edge if you don't know where to look.

Fuck the Beatles

Oasis killed music. My radio committed suicide as a result.

They also are responsible for the decline in the economy. They may have been indirectly responsible for the premature passing of Heath Ledger.....heard they are good friends with a certain raccoon (not Rocky)....evil, pure evil!!!!

Oasis's first 2 albums (and even Be Here Now to a lesser extent) are all great great records.
