I wish there was one of those yellow faces that was flabbergasted, depressed and sighing while repeatedly shaking its head back and forth and mumbing "tsk, tsk, tsk" under its breath. I would definitely use that yellow face here.

The man has over 2,900 hits in the major leagues. I do not generally use the term "grindy" for members of the 3,000 hit club, but perhaps I am mistaken.

This is the closest I could get for you

He is certainly one of the greatest hitters of our time. His defense can only be described with one word: overrated.

I'm not saying he isnt a good player. I just think if he was drafted by an avg midmarket team he wouldnt have the same level of worship that he does now. Getting to play on the biggest stage each year helps add to his legend. It is easy to be called Mr November when your team is consistently in the WS mix.

Tell that to A Rod

Jeter maybe won some gold gloves because he's a great hitter. That tends to happen with gold gloves.

Gold gloves are pretty stupid anyway.

Derek Jeter is not a good player. Good players dont get 3000 hits. He's great.

He's also easily the best postseason performer of this and perhaps any generation.

And please, stop with the Pirates thing. The Pirates would have traded him in his 3rd year and he would have wound up winning somewhere else.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

When they go to good hitters they sure are.

He is good. He has avoided major injuries and always played on good teams. He makes the playoffs every year because of the team he is on and because of that he gets a lot of chances to prove how 'clutch' he is in the postseason. Combine all of these things and that makes him great, on another team we might think differently of him.

Look at Halladay, he is a great pitcher that toiled away on the Jays. You could never say he was clutch in the postseason because he never got a shot. I think he did alright when given a chance.

Yankees are a good team to be drafted by, no doubt.

But I think youre underestimating his the fact that in his chances to prove how clutch he is...He's been insanely successful in those chances. Moreso than many others who have had similiar chances

The only others with similar chances (Derek Jeter has by far played in the most post season games of anyone...ever!) are other Yankees.

What's strange (sorta) is that Derek Jeter's post season numbers are pretty much the same as his regular season numbers...on average. So if you just think he's just good, or above-average... his post-season #s shouldn't really put him over the top to now count him as great.

He's a really good player that would likely get in the HOF had he played on another team his entire career... but since he DID play his career with the NYY, and he produced up to his abilities in the post season... he'll be a legend.

If you don't like Jeter, you don't like baseball.

Versus the top 4-6 pitchers of the best 2-3,4 teams of the league in the most pressure packed time of the year. Virtually every year.

Special is what he is.

Don't hate ;)

Ignoring all other factors, good hitters and pitchers should both perform closer to mediocre in the playoffs, since they're facing stronger opposition. But batters should fare even worse, since the 2 worst pitchers are eliminated, while pitchers still get to face the bad hitters in the lineups. So yeah, hitting your career average in the playoffs is pretty good. (You could also make an argument for the cold weather, but I don't know if that stands up. It is 85 today in October  )

If having the most hits doesn't make you great. Than having the most money doesn't make you rich

Surely you jest.

Well the turn of the phrase there struck me (and only me, I'm quite sure) as amusing. The very thought of anyone being described as a rich man's Ryan Theriot is, say, stimulating and perplexing at the same time. If not Rose, what names could be on such a list? A Grace maybe? An Eckstein? The mind boggles.

And don't call me Shir... no, that would be intellectually lazy to go there.
