Well Jordan is the one case where its all but fact. Sooooo many experts agree. Its not indisputable, but its close

But do they really? I still think all those same experts, if they were drafting a team from the greatest players of all-time in their primes, would take the great centers ahead of Jordan. The modern fan's answer to that is "he's just tall" as if that somehow removes the greatness of a Chamberlain or a Jabbar. No one ever thinks to say Jordan was "just quick". A player's physical attributes are what make him great. If height is one of them in a game where height is at a premium, so be it.

RPB's brother was right.

Ok Bernstein

Despite the whole "1b doesnt matter defensively frank thomas" argument, Mattingly was a better all around player.

Those As teams won on the strength of Dave Stewart and his merry band of 15 game winners.

But Donny was my guy so I was a shade biased

I'll admit some bias too since I thought Canseco was the most fun player to watch that I had ever seen. He was like Babe Ruth there for a little while. I would have even paid to watch him strike out.

And I think you're down on Jose's defense a little too much. Early in his career he was a premium outfielder who was even capable of playing an acceptable center and he was a good rightfielder. I know everyone remembers the ball bouncing off his head now. But he was hurt for a lot of '89 too, wasn't he?

Mattingly was strong from about '84 to '89, but that was about it. He didn't have much of a career.

Your answer was insulting, Rick. If you can't see that, you're not really as smart as you believe yourself to be. But you know it was insulting. And that's what you intended. That's fine. But don't pretend that I started something with you. You can't fashion yourself as this intelligent guy and then play dense when it suits you. It just doesn't work.
The amount of things you take personally is amazing. There is no way that was an insult.

Finally, you should understand that your listing of who you think is the greatest of all time and who is close, etc. is a personal thing and not some kind of absolute.
Where did I say it was an absolute?

Different situations

23 had a top 50 all time NBAer on his team already.

If he was dragging a team of garbage to the playoffs his first seven years, his feelings would have been different
While not perfect because of the ownership angle(which he clearly could have gotten out of) he spent time with a below average Wizards team when he could definitely have done like Scottie Pippen did and try and join up with a team of other great players to win another title. Even with his skills clearly in decline he wanted to be "the man".

This isn't even mentioning the fact that I'm pretty sure that Jordan finished his rookie contract before he won his first title with that top 50 all time NBAer and decided to stay in Chicago instead of joining a team like the Pistons or Lakers. There are probably 5 times in his career that Jordan could have done what Lebron did.

Damn man, why does every thread have to turn into a dick-waving, drawn-out debate? Damn.

JORR, you clearly started this one. Now Brick's gonna keep this going for the next five days. Happy?

Actually, Rick, I don't take anything here personally. You're the guy that started whining like a bitch that I called you names.

Maybe you have your nose pointed at a computer screen so much you really don't understand how actual social interactions work. I asked you a simple question. It was a sincere question and not the slightest bit controversial. You could answer it or ignore it. You chose to answer it. But rather than offer a civil reply, you said, "I don't understand the need for this question. How about because I want to?" Now, if you had given such an answer to someone's face, you would clearly be viewed as anti-social at best. Here's the need for the question: Because I wanted to ask it. It's not incumbent upon you to answer. But if you're going to answer like a snotty Caller Bob, don't be shocked at the response you get back. Oh, and don't take it personally.

Lebron sure does whine a lot since he made "The Decision". http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/truehoop/miamiheat/news/story?id=5707475
