I hadn't even heard of this game prior to yesterday. Got a 8.5 from IGN, but the review is pretty darn glowing. I love me some power suit. Move over Spartan suit... now there's something meatier. I think I may pick it up.

Ahhh... he knows I'm just kidding him. I actually like Halo: Reach. Kinda hard not to if you like online multiplayer shooters (which this game ain't). I think there is enough room in the closet for a Spartan Armor and the ARS Power suit.

Separately, some of my favorite suits came from Dead Space. Can't wait for DS2 next year!

Any anime fans out there? This kinda reminds me a bit of Appleseed or Patlabor.

ahhhhh... PC gamer. I never understood why the PC gamers nickel and dimed the games, yet had no problems paying $2,000 for a sweet rig.

To play more games with better graphics and controls?

More games? How do you figure? I guess I was under the impression that more games are being made for platforms than computers these days (or at least the ones I'm interested in)... is that right?

I'm surprised. Do they come out at the same time or do you have to wait for them?

Here is the IGN review.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C222qEMzYTU

I'll go out on a limb and say that this game could be the surprise hit of the year. Looks like a much better version of Gears of War. Frankly, I like it when a shooter sticks to either MP (with a short SP) or single-player (without an online MP). The pace of this game looks amazing.

I still remember someone here a few years back who kept talking about their 5,000 dollar rig...like every post mentioned it...and if I remember correctly, you ended up going off of them...

It was pretty good...but I'm pretty sure it got pruned...

Oh, and as for the game...

...I hope the dialogue has improved since this trailer was made....

...shit is like Resident Evil 5-bad...

We have 8 hours to stop that from happening...WE WILL stop that from happening!

It is for PC gamers, owned by Valve. It is an application / forum / games store that used to be for Valve games only, and over the last 5-6 years has become a platform which you use to buy games from most publishers / developers. Steam offers all games as digital downloads...and they have a lot of leeway it would seem in terms of pricing...publishers love it because it reduces costs...and increases profits / sales as almost everyone who plays PC games uses Steam now. Steam has daily and weekly deals constantly, sometimes crazy how low prices are. I bought Bioshock for $5 less than a year after it came out...L4D2 was on sale for $6.99 about a week ago... When a game first comes out it will always cost normal amounts ($50-60) but within a couple months or so...you'll always see reduced prices and deals. Without Steam my games library would be much, much smaller.

As much of a Microsoft apologist as I can be, they could learn a lot from Valve. I love the Xbox Live marketplace, but Steam really does put it to shame.

Yeah... I almost confused the dialogue in Halo:Reach for Steinbeck... but then I realized he is dead. ;)
All else being equal, it's not like any major FPS has had great dialogue and/or plot. The best we can hope for on most shooters is a decent atmosphere.

Halo has it's moments of bad dialogue...

That's the best they could come up with for this game? Imagine what treasures lie in wait for those who buy the game. I'm considering it just in the hope that we get some good Master Chief fodder out of it.

And no, we are not having the Halo/story debate again...for the third or fourth time... :)

Lipid... i think you and i are on the same page. I just had no expectation for this game and now I think it looks pretty damn good. I'm an anime fan, so I am kinda inclined to like the look of this game. The vistas in this game look pretty amazing too.

Gametrailers gave it a 9.0... I usually find its pretty rare that a game without a multiplayer gets this high of a rating. My copy should arrive next week (I went for the free shipping option on Amazon). I'll hopefully get a review written up. I'm geeked for this game.

Ok, first let me get this out of the way...

Quote:

Now, the gameplay looks enjoyable enough that it might be worth picking up in spite of (or more likely because of) the unintentionally hilarious dialogue that is playing over it. The fact that there is no multiplayer has me a bit hesitant, as I'm not sure how many times I could play the same 6-8 hours of gameplay over and over again before I get bored.

That being said, if I get some free time and see it on the cheap somewhere, I might just pull the trigger on this one.

I guess what has gotten me is the beauty of the game. I love that Appleseed/Ghost in the Shell kind of look. I eat it up with a spoon. I'll go out on a limb and speculate there hasn't been a Japanese made video game that had dialogue that wasn't ridiculous. The frenetic pace of this game has gotten me. The backdrops look amazing too. The art direction on this game looks off the charts.

But you are right that the replayability isn't that high. I'll gladly buy this game and then sell it for $20 cheaper in 3 weeks. To me, that is a deal. I did that with Dead Space, which was an absolute delight to play.

Dude... finally finished this game. It is definitely worth your time to play this game. It's intense. The story does suck, but the game is probably the second best action genre games that doesn't have a multiplayer (Dead Space would be #1).

It's a really clean game. No screen lag even when there are a gagillion bullets and explosions and you are zooming across the battlefield. Technically, it's very surprising it can look this good and not suffer screen tears and lag.
