Ken Holland, GM of Detroit, is going to propose a change to the NHL's overtime system next month at Winter Meetings.

Changes:

-Overtime extended to 8 minutes
-4 Minutes of 4 on 4 and 4 minutes of 3 on 3
-Shootout if still tied after 8 minutes of play


I like it in that I'm in favor of anything moving away from the skills competition to determine the winner of the 2nd point. Less shootouts is a good thing.

So they would stop the first OT period after 4 mins.....then pull off one a side and go 3 on 3 for the last 4 mins.....so if there is a penalty at that point it would be 3 on 2? That is pretty much just a shootout at that point anyway. Why not just pull the goalies too.
