starting this early b/c I received an early gift from my best bud.

storyline:
o.k....so, my buddy works on a studio and lighting stage in the City. He's been in the film business for 11 years. he's met a ton of celebs from Michael Jordan (for Hanes commercials) to Jennifer Aniston...
not once in those 11 years has he ever asked for an autograph.
This past Thursday. Ed "Too Tall" Jones, Ron Jaworski, Ditka, Larry Little, Mean Joe Green, and Jim Kelly, etc...are doing a commercial for some LA Diet thing that we'll all probably see during the playoffs or Super Bowl...
anyway...he calls me to tell me that these guys are on the stage just to piss me off a bit. b/c for him it's just work and no big deal.

"Jim Kelly!?!?! he's on the stage...dude, I fucking love Jim Kelly as much as Montana....."
"Yeah, I know...I can't do anything though b/c some Production Assistants were taking pix with Ditka and the Producers got pissed off."
"I know......you didn't even get a pic with Jordan."
"Yeah....well...."

So, today he comes over with a Roger Goodell football personally signed to me by Jim Kelly....
"My very best to you Doug. Jim Kelly #12 HOF 02" on the ball.

He cleared it with the Director and Producer, both of whom are good friends of his, and his Boss.
So, he runs to three different Sportsmarts in the City in order to find an official ball to do this......

now, that's fucking cool...

My wife got me a TiVo, but she didn't get the HD one, and I have to say it makes the non-HD channels look even worse when it's on

Still happy about it though, it's going to be nice to ditch the old VCR (which yes, I do actually use to tape things occasionally)

Well, keeping in mind the size of my condo and the 6 guitars that we own, we started to run out of room with just the stands. So, went to Guitar Center and picked up a few of their wall mounts. Worke dout quite nicely, actually.

I didn't really want anything special for Christmas, so I didn't get anything that memorable. The highlight of my Christmas celebration was probably the meal I cooked for my family. This was the menu:

--pancetta, leek and goat cheese tartlets (appetizer)
--cream of mushroom soup [made with homemade chicken stock, lots of cream, leeks and a variety of fresh and dried mushrooms], served with homemade Parker House butter rolls
--tossed salad with homemade balsamic vinaigrette dressing
--8-lb standing rib roast, purchased from Bornhofen's meat market, cooked to medium-rare and served with a red wine, beef stock and crimini mushroom reduction sauce
--spinach and roasted red pepper gratin [lots of swiss and ricotta cheese went into this along with some cream and eggs]
--mashed potato gratin [other main ingredients were sour cream, cream cheese, chives and butter]
--homemade Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream [this was some of the best ice cream I've ever had--I made a custard base and steeped the beans for quite some time]
--flourless chocolate cake [I was a little disappointed with this--it had a chalky texture, possibly due to over-baking]

Overall, this was an incredibly decadent and delicious meal. The rib roast was some of the best red meat I've consumed this year and the good food [and good wine and champagne] got everyone into a festive mood.
