Sneed, North out on Ch. 5 newscasts

The tittle tattle at the WMAQ-Ch. 5 newsroom is that Michael Sneed, the Chicago Sun-Times' doyenne of dish, is losing her part-time gig at the NBC-owned station.

Her twice-weekly "Sneed's Scoops" segments are getting the hook, a victim of the cost-cutting campaign that's also ending WSCR-AM 670 morning man Mike North's occasional contributions to Channel 5's morning newscast and "Sports Sunday" program.

In another move at Channel 5, Rob Elgas, who has been fronting WMAQ's weekend morning news with Anita Padilla on Saturdays and Kim Vatis on Sundays, is getting a new co-anchor in Zoraida Sambolin.

Sambolin has been co-anchoring the station's 11 a.m. weekday newscast with Art Norman, but that show is being eliminated next month.

Norman is going to become a showcased feature reporter.

Sneed, a former Chicago Tribune reporter and columnist and City Hall spokeswoman, has a contract with WMAQ through the end of the year, but it was not immediately known whether she would continue on-air in the interim.

The bigger news is Sneed. I despise that professional ass kisser.

To me, the bigger news is that North actually gets paid for his NBC appearances. I thought he paid to get on TV.

This is indeed great news, but if only the story, instead of calling him a "victim of cost-cutting measures" would have instead said he lost the gig because those "sports reports" of his were useless and worthless and he's a lame piece of crap. Now THEN I would REALLY feel good about this! Oh well, whatever the reason, that's one less media outlet for this idiot.

I gotta go with Art. His forehead is slightly bigger than Dan's.

I see Feder's got the serious Mike North ass-kissing machine on full blast again. Today, in his report on the North dismissal at NBC, he calls his segments on the morning news "sharp and lively" and also gives Fritzy some undeserved column space for his reappearance on the show the other mornng, calling him "always colorful."

Mike North, morning personality of CBS Radio sports/talk WSCR-AM (670), has landed a new television gig. Just weeks after he was dropped by Channel 5 in an NBC budget cut, he's been snapped up by Channel 32.

Starting this weekend, North will join "Fox Kickoff Live" with Corey McPherrin and Tom Waddle at 10:30 a.m. Sundays.

How does this keep happening? Why do TV people think this guy has something to offer? Go up to ten people on the street and ask for their reaction to Mike North and nine of them will either go, "Who?" or "I can't stand him", his ratings suck, and yet, he keeps getting these extra gigs.

Congrats to Mike on his new TV gig on Fox. I lost interest in his radio show but gotta give the man his props. He has done alot with his education background which shows that with a little hard work you can reach your dreams in this country. I get a kick out of all those who criticize the man. Appears to me to be nothin more than jealousy. I know I couldnt do what Mike does and I doubt most on this forum could do it either.

Could someone please tell me what he will bring to the table on this show? I imagine he will be dong his standard shouting "Am I right, or am I right?" routine. There is a reason I don't bother with pre-game shows (local or national) on TV.

Nas, for $1.7 million, I'll throw in

- Bring in my geriatric friends in to talk about the "happening nightlife" in Chicago

- Spend ridiculous amounts of time talking about Connie Francis and Solid Gold

- Prepare Kyle Orton's hall of fame induction speech

I never thought the NBC was a good gig. I saw him twice and figured it was one of those cross promo things.

NBC news got North to talk about them and NBC News showed North if only for 2 mins.

But to have this idiot host a real NFL show, shockingly bad.

I used to at least think Waddle and McPherrin had some credentials.
