VLAD! the vladometer dips, but he managed to 4-3 with runners on first and third and one out and hit it slow enough to ensure that it was a 4-3 and not a 4-6-3 and THE RANGERS ARE UP 1-0

whooooo!!!

/me high fives himself and looks forward to a thread full of himself tonight.

/me puts on eye of the tiger on repeat 1 and embraces his inner panthro

for the series the vladometer is down to .250, as intentionally walking josh hamilton paid off. i guess he needs papelbon out there to fully excel, because that could have big if andrus would have been able to score.

for some reason yahoo sports claims the series' vladometer is at .300, but by my estimations he's at .250. either way errghhh man i'm not even a rangers fan but i'm all tense because if this series goes to game seven, i think cliff lee is due for a 3-4ER performance and the rangers will be so shellshocked that the yankees will have all the momentum in the world (same thing in the other series)

but hey, this is why we watch.

/me watches time traveler colby lewis live out stoneroses86's nightmares.

i envision stoneroses having a yankees bunker cuz he only shows up afterwards to disparage "joejoe" and cashmang. regardless of what happens this year, the yankees will look a lot stronger with carl crawford likely batting 2nd and cliff lee spearheading the rotation. i mean i reckon you still lead off jeets then bat crawford 2nd i'd keep cano third, but hmmm you're looking at:

1) jeets/SS
2) crawdaddy/LF
3) teixeira/1B
4) gay-rod/3B
5) cano/2B
6) granderson/CF
7) posada/C or whoever DHs
8) whoever DHs / backup/C
9) gardner/RF????

yeah that's the only real hole there, unless crawdaddy has the arm for RF

even tho a-fraud is gonna be like, diminishing returns over the next few years the YES! network will offset the costs... WOW WAY TO NOT HUSTLE CANO. wow he trotted.

but i like granderson being the secondary leadoff hitter in the 9 hole to turn over the lineup and then have speed on base for jeter/crawford/meat.

personally, i think teixeira is overpaid as his annual april/may swoon actually seemed to get worse this year then came back for the ALCS. i mena just think if tex wasn't absolute shite for april/may he'd be a perennial 300/35/120 type guy, isntead, shit, he ends up at .250? 260-270? i mean most years he'd recover to be like .280 overall, which is amazing.

basically, i think the yankees dynasty hinges on how they do the pitching thing... cliff lee would be "oh shit" for all of baseball, cuz the redsox sunk too much cash into LACKey, i never liked becks, ol one nut lester is good. buchholtz will be formidable. daisuke? shit whatever you get out of him... i think boston needs to be in the cliff lee derby.

anyways imma shutup and get to the game. i'm too drinky tonight. early work tomorrow so i aint out watching it but liek arrrghhhh. at least i had t rank high in the thread for people who have no impact whatsoever on the board ;)

You could say it cost them a run though.
Swish on 1st, so it's first and third, and that double plates 2.
Or who knows?
But still. Could have been worse.

david murphy was like.... shit, 15-20 feet away from another two run shot. straighten it out, dude... or hell just rap a nice single.

EEEEEEAAANNNN KINSLAHHHH dude, wtf, if there's about to be an inning ending 5-3 and a-rod makes it obvious he's going to tag you instead of going 5-3, why not turn around and run for your life and get into a rundown as opposed to trying to juke him whilst kindasortastayinginthebasepath?

i doubt they're this forward thinking, but maybe they want to get colby lewis back out there and not have him sit for a really long inning and risk some rust getting into him.

/me shines the stoneroses86 signal because he wants to hear the yankees fan perspective on this. and it's not because he wants to "rub it in" or be some sort of an asshat (there was a dude like that up in 443 during the bears game... naturally, he encountered a group of 5 people who gave it back to him, along with the security guard =) but really, i do want to know what y'all are thinking

/me checks #yankees

welp there's one dude in #yankees who hates me...

21:30 < AlanJames> at least we got the giants on sundays
21:30 < AlanJames> go eli!

i realize showing up on teh eve of their destruction after teh score went to 5-1 went down... but the consensus there is that this is the lineup's fault and not girardi's fault and rah rah rah rah. at least one of the oerators kindly msg'd and asked me not to talk offseason stuff.

what i'm realizing is that while i do have respect for yankees fans... man. some of them are really douches

21:32 < AlanJames> man
21:33 < AlanJames> i just want to shoot elvis in the fucking head
21:33 < AlanJames> lol
21:33 < AlanJames> this game is over girardi
21:33 < AlanJames> u can face josh now
21:33 < AlanJames> right it down
21:33 < AlanJames> vlad 3 run bomb
21:34 < AlanJames> w*

OH WOE IS ME!!!

kerry wood is on the mound at this point. bring out mitre... they're experienced losers =D

Wonder how much the Yanks will pay Jeter next season, he is brutal now. A-Rod is back to sucking in the playoffs, and their relief pitching is bad. They will be paying lots of money if they're planning to sign Jeter, Crawford, Lee, and any relief help.

Jeter is making like 18 million this year. This is the end of a long deal he signed. He's really only a 5-6 million dollar player at this point. Nobody would pay him more than that at his age. Actually, if you look at what decent old vets got last year, maybe he's just a 3 million a year player.

.270 shortstops with no power and below average range aren't really sought after. He's gonna be 37 next year, right?

Cocaine, helluva drug.

If the Giants can finish off Philly, it'll be pot vs cocaine in the World Series.

Giants have never won a World Series in San Francisco. Dallas has never seen a WS champ. One of the cities will get one if that's the matchup.

Giants have the 3rd longest drought. Cubs, Indians, Giants. Giants last won it in the 50s while in NY with Bobby Thomson's homer.

earlier in teh thread i waxed poetic about vlad finally getting to a world series despite the fact two teams he wanted to stay with at the time (montreal, anaheim) basically told him to GTFO. i mean like, vlad's a good dude... he has his mom around cooking dinner for his teammates... he pays for his illegitimate kids... if he had his druthers he prolly would have been a career expo/natinal, or he would have gladly come back to anaheim where he wanted to stay, but NOOOOO they wanted WS MVP HIDEKI MATSUI so therefore, the angels say GTFO so he signs with texas.

i mean, if he ends up being shoved away into a WS berth, man, that's fitting for a guy who kisses his hand and points up to god every time he touches home plate.

btw what is captain cocaine doing? colby lewis has 103 pitches through 8 innings and he literally made thames and jeter look silly on strikeouts. he was amped up with adrenaline... here's a guy who defines journeyman... he didn't pitch in teh majors in 08-09, and if you look at his earlier career there were ~2-3 seasons where he pitched in less than 5-10 major league games.

teh guy is sitting on 103 pitches and has a chance at CG to clinch a WS berth, i mean, he absolutely kicked the yankees in the nuts..... they're off balance against him (only 3 hits) AND YOU'RE BRINGING IN NEFTALI FELIZ?!

my only guess is that he wants neftali feliz to have experience in big closeout games, no matter the lead... maybe it's a test of nerves? if feliz ends up pitching STRAIGHT CASH HOMEY to close out the WS or even in a pivotal game in a non-save situation (likely a tie or a small deficit) maybe this is a sagelike move?

If it's Giants vs Rangers, we'll get a lot of camera shots of two of the most reviled public figures of the last decade.

I like the cuddly Giants team a smidge better, but I'd put money on Texas winning it.

And the NL won the All-Star game, so Texas gets to start on the road; where apparently they are more comfortable playing in the post-season.

YES! YES! HELLLLLL YESSSS!!!!

this one's for vlad, baby. comeon giants, i don't want any part of that phillies offense having regular shots at this rangers rotation. sure fox would love philly cuz they want bigger baseball markets and the cliff lee story would be fucking hilarious, it'd be like the gruden bowl of tampa/oakland in the world series.

and here's the best part.... check out #yankees...

invoking their inner john cage (4'33") we now are greeted with the sounds of silence. the yankees fans literally have nothing to say.... crying in their beer. this is knocking yankees fans down a notch here. i reminded the nice op guy that i'm a bears fan and that they likely ruined our seaosn a few sundays ago so enjoy that one =D

Very nice. Congrats Rangers. Now Cliff Lee can start game 1.

Who talked Washington into a hair cut? I liked him better when he was proudly rocking the george jefferson. I just dusted off the old rangers jersey for use next week. I am not sure why I have a rangers jersey but I do and its got a number (2) so i will have to see exactly who is wearing 2 this year if anyone.

Whether it's Philly or SF, no use throwing Halladay or Lincecum out there vs Lee in game 1. Sacrifice your #4 starter vs Lee and then have Lincecum or Halladay go Game 2 and then either game 4 on short rest or game 6 (figuring Lee also pitches game 5).

actually that op from #yankees is a good dude, we're having a nice little query/msg/PM/etc session.

but yeah, spike the ginger ale and hide josh hamilton cuz it's a mad celebration going on. THEE 2010 TEXAS RANGERS: THIS ONE'S FOR VLAD!!!

even tho i am sick as hell of seeing nolan ryan in the crowd... it's like, dude, he just bought the team a few months ago. (/me goes fucking nuts cuz all of a sudden his laptop is wholesaling b's all over the place, the key seems to be fine... maybe i'm hacked by a hacker with a sense of humor? =) oh wait... shit. he spent his last ~5 years pitching for the rangers. welp, fox treats us like complete idiots with their national broadcasts, so we'll have to endure all of this history stuff... at least bring back scooter.

so yeah, now i can't wait for EXTREME CLOSE UPS of nolan ryan's face every other fucking inning and joe buck telling us why we absolutely must love and cherish the guy because he is fox sports' norse god of the narrative and that's what he does. oh shit and the josh hamilton redemption tale will never end... he can thank his lord and saviour jesus christ first and foremost.

see, one other reason that it's awesome to be a vlad guy is... think about all of the dumb shit you've ever heard him say? none. he sandbags on his english a la ichiro so the only time you hear from him is when he signs a contract or reaches a milestone... no soundbytes, no cliches... he just shows up and plays baseball.

anyways, FOUR MORE WINS TIL...

Image

edit: i promise to never post that picture in here again save a rangers world series championship. who knows, maybe i'll make it my avatar if that's hte case. VIVE LES EXPOS!

you know, i don't think you can do that. whilst lee has been gibsonesque in his postseason dominance these last two years, moreso this year, what if you're able to tag him for say... three runs? what if you can work the pitch count and get him in trouble and get him out b4 the 8th inning? wouldn't you want a staff ace/type to do his best to limit the rangers offensive output that way should the unthinkable happen you've got a better chance.

i see your logic and where you're coming from... and given that the rangers staff falls off considerably after lee (cj wilson was money versus the rays and in his first game versus the yankees... that 2nd go around sucked profusely. although colby lewis surprised the living hell out of me today.... 3H in 8IP? wow) you can take your chances matching up, say, matt cain or jonathan sanchez or if its the phils your oswalt/hamels against them.

btw, if blanton were to face tommy hunter in the world series, combining their weights, would it be the heaviest game ever started by two pitchers int he world series?

I wonder what helps baseball more today, a Giants win and a Giants-Rangers world series or a Game 7 against the Vikings-Packers game.

You would think more people would watch the baseball game since it's game 7, but if Titans-Jaguars can beat a Yankees game, you never know.

Good series by the Rangers. Yankees after a playoff exit=Spending spree

I think Bonds ruined the Giants for me. I cant muster up any love or hate for them. I just kinda wish they didnt exist.

Fuck you Nolan Ryan.

Hussra I like the way you think with the rotation. I mean your not gonna beat Lee unless he throws a clunker, and if he does your 4 should beat him anyway.

Early 2-0 lead for the Fightins. The way Hamels has been pitching that just might be enough.

edit: Ozzy's pitching. One and a half beers and I'm already drunk. :drunken:
