Notre Dame is a mid-major college football program.

As an ND hater, it just keeps getting better & better each year,
Brian Kelly made one of the dumbest calls I have ever seen when ND was in the red zone & threw the ball into the end zone at the end of the game when a field goal wins the game. The pass is picked off & Tulsa wins.

ND has had 3 top 10 recruiting classes in the last 5 years & they still suck.

I wonder if Kelly misses Cincinnati yet?

it's so much more than that. ask dave duerson, it's the american vatican and as such is held to a higher standard due to the prestige. just like when he smacked his wife around some before shoving her out the motel room door: it was an act of divine providence.

any school that will kick you out of the stadium for wearing a "dump davie" shirt but then turn around and sell you a "catholics vs convicts" shirt is basically reaping what it's sowing, but in fairness i'd give this guy a couple'a years to see if he can even sniff the top-25 with that soft-ass schedule, because i reckon college football writers would love to get them up in the top 25 either 1) straightup or 2) to see them get throttled in a better bowl game

It's bad enough they lost Declan Sullivan, the school videographer in a horrific crash that could've been prevented. Now, Notre Dame loses on NBC AT HOME to a Tulsa school that's not exactly a football hotbed, and also had Bears' head coach Lovie Smith in attendance?! You've got to be kidding me!

Notre Dame ought to stop bullshitting themselves.....JOIN THE BIG 10.....Notre Dame is closer to Northwestern academically and in athletics than they are to Southeastern Conference schools....and Texas and Oklahoma....and the University of Spoiled Children and the Quasi-Criminal Duck.....
Oregon could run up 80 points on Notre Dame this season AT WILL.

I'll never understand why NBC Sports continues to have Notre Dame football on their schedule. I know NBC spends a lot of $$$$ to carry their broadcasts, but I can't remember the last time they were relevant in college football. They lost to Tulsa, people. Needless to say, I can't think of something other than the late televangelist Oral Roberts when I think of that Oklahoma city...

NBC makes money on the ND deal. That's why they do it. BTN handed out $22 million to each school last year. There is obviously enough advertising $$$ to support these deals.

I can see your point Shark, but they are still relevant, not the top tier, but they still have a big following, not rating wise this year, but that could be some of the opponents they are playing. They did have some decent teams this decade with Charlie Weiss first year with Brady Quinn and Jeff Samardzjia.

Lovie Smith is went to Tulsa.

The thing is, Notre Dame is still signing a lot of 3 & 4 star recruits, & a few 5 star recruits. Given that ND's 2007 & 2008 recruiting class are now Juniors & Seniors, they should have a pretty good team right now.
Here is where the ND recruiting class has ranked in the last 9 years:

2011 #11
2010 #14
2009 #21
2008 #2
2007 #8
2006 #8
2005 #40
2004 #32
2003 #12
2002 #24

The jury is still out on Brian Kelly. ND should have hired Gruden.

ND is the Bermuda Triangle for recruits. Nobody does less with more than ND. They are chock full of 4 and 5 star recruits. Seriously, NU has one 4-star recruit (Patrick Ward) on the entire team. Not to sound ridiculously self serving (I know I am), but when you look at performance vs. talent (if you believe the star system), NU has to be near the top in developing players. If I'm a recruit and I see what they've accomplished with a bunch of 3-stars and I consider that I could get playing time earlier than at ND... I'd pick NU every day of the week.

Exactly right Mud. ND is loaded with top recruits yet they still suck. Meanwhile, Boise State hasn't had a top 50 recruiting class in at least 9 years, & probably never have had one.

There are some feelings out there that there is "star fixing" on the evaluation level when it comes to grading ND recruits.

The problem with the ratings is that they either consciously or subconsciously put a lot of value behind "who" is offering them. Notre Dame immediately bumps up a recruit simply because of who they are. Therefore, every recruit they have is going to be rated higher simply because Notre Dame recruited them.

It's even somewhat logical. If USC, Texas, Alabama, and Notre Dame are all interested in you then you are likely better than if Purdue, Indiana, and a few MAC schools are interested. If Tulsa is the only school interested in you then you probably aren't that good.

Then again, you also have Tom Lemming, who is a huge ND homer, who is very influential in this stuff. http://www.fanblogs.com/florida_state/006407.php
