What's the Phillies situation? Imagine if they make a run at Lee. They would have probably the most talented rotation in the history of the game

I'm guessing he either stays in Tex or goes to the Bronx

You just described how MLB is viewed here.

"who else" also pretty much means the Red Sox or Mets.

You guys keep forgetting that the Tigers have a TON of money coming off the books. They also have a solid core to build around and with a couple of moves they could be a powerhouse in the AL. Besides (SHARK!), Cliff Lee pitching in that park is only going to help him and his team.

The thought of Cliff Lee in Detroit makes me a little sick.

Absolutely, I'm just pointing out that the Tigers have a ton of money to spend as well as the Yanks.

Minnesota really needs to make a run at him.

The Twinkies have all the new stadium money, but they have been on the receiving end of revenue sharing. Now that they are paying into the pool, don't be so quick to assume they won't still operate as a mid-market team.

As for where Lee will actually wind up, depends if he wants to play in New York or not. Obviously they have the most money. After bouncing around to 4 different teams in the past few years he might look at who offers the most years. I don't know if some boneheaded GM will offer up the 6 or 7 year megadeal or not.

Texas has no personal income tax... so New York will have to probably tack that on as well.. plus the whole cost of living difference. Cliff is also from Arkansas.. pretty close to Arlington. Cliff is 33.. although not really a classic power pitcher, he's a guy that attacks the strike zone and commands all his pitches. He can probably sustain a reasonable level of success, but he will start losing stuff. I'm not sure even the Yankees would offer him another Sabathia contract, CC is a bit younger and more likely to earn the value of his contract. Still if anyone can absorb such a risk it is the Yanks.

I agree that right now, Texas is the favorite...
