I don't think the two groups are exactly the same but I think they're probably similar enough that Jerry can get the Sox guys to go along with reaching deep when he wants to by reminding them of all the success they have with the Bulls.

It is interesting. I'm not really claiming that payroll is the only factor in winning.

7 teams paid the luxury tax in 2008-2009. So no, the rest of the league doesn't pay it. The ones that do, besides the Knicks who are simply a terrible organization, are pretty much the teams with the best individual players in the whole league and very few were through free agency.

Every team in the league has paid luxury tax since its inception except the Bulls and Clippers.

Well, the Bulls have been bad. They've been really bad. Can you blame him for not paying the luxury tax on the Tim Floyd era? I'm basically conceding that they did a terrible job from the day Jordan left to the day they drafted Derrick Rose. With that said, I could really care less that for some reason teams like the Grizzlies and the Pacers have paid it. My guess is that as soon as they have to pay Rose that they are paying the luxury tax if it still exists.

It still doesn't change the fact that he's brought 7 titles to Chicago. Is there any owner in Chicago history who has won more?

The Bears won 8 under George Halas, but our parents weren't even alive for some of those.

He has spent money on the Sox...the problem is his organization has NO CLUE......we just witnessed a total season of front office chaos.....the organization has no damned plan under Kenny Williams except "Catch Lightning in a Bottle".
BUILD A DAMNED FARM SYSTEM.
I really don't need to see money wasted on goofs like Manny Ramirez because Dumb Ass Kenny Williams doesn't realize his team has ZERO chance to win the Division or Wild Card.

Take away Matt Cain, Brian Wilson, and Ortiz from the Giants for 3 weeks in late August into September. Do you think they make the playoffs still?

Injuries happen to everybody, but the Sox were really thin with injuries and they still could have won that division. Kenny has made some strange moves, but this year its on the players for not executing.

What did it hurt though?

You would be better off going after the Peavy deal, but he did have a plan there. It just turns out that the plan failed. It's looking like that is going to actually hurt over the long term. Manny was a rent-a-player that didn't help but won't hurt.

Bob, you do remember the last time the White Sox made the call that the team couldn't win the Division or Wild card, right? It's become known as "The White Flag Trade" and has been used as evidence that Reinsdorf doesn't care about winning. It's not fair to slam the guy for doing everything he can to stay in contention in one instance and bash him for clearing out old guys and payroll for prospects on the other. Reinsdorf was right. That team was never going to cath Cleveland. This year's team might have caught Minnesota and everyone thought they were a bat short. They should have had Thome (or a suitable replacement) to begin with, but I don't think trying Manny was a bad idea.

You know, when the Bulls won six championships, nobody had anything positive whatsoever about "The Two Jerrys" and the way they were surely meddling, sabotaging, and generally getting in the way of our enjoyment. Reinsdorf rightfully got minimal credit for Michael Jordan's dynasty. Several years later, the White Sox win a championship and all people say is "HEY BUDDY YOU BETTER SHOW MY UNCLE JERRY SOME RESPECT." Funny how that changed, and Reinsdorf had just as little to do with winning that title too! Me, I won't show any respect to the guy who uttered the words "we were looking for a three-thirds, no-thirds split" while shaking down Washington taxpayers for a new ballpark nobody would ever go to. He's a scoundrel who has done more harm than good to the business of sport. I don't care how many complete games Jon Garland threw five years ago. Bad guy.

Many people gave him a lot of credit. He was the owner. Jerry Krause gets a ton of credit even if he made the terrible mistake of not doing whatever it takes to go after the 7th title. It seems like you are just making this thing up. Under the Two Jerrys watch we had one of the greatest dynasties in NBA history. Jordan gets a ton of credit for it but it wasn't a one man show. Every year they made moves that ended up being important.

Ha! This is awesome. As far as an owner goes, he's one of, if not the greatest, owner in Chicago sports history. He's brought titles to multiple teams here whereas almost all other owners here were unable to do it once for one team. Do me a favor and rank your best Chicago owners in history. I'll be shocked if you get past 3 without naming him.

Who cares about Washington? I don't.

Way too many people act as if it was a foregone conclusion that the Bulls were going to win again. I've even heard people say Jordan won six in a row. They conveniently forget Horace being carried off the court in that Magic uniform.
