The American League winners of the 2010 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards, revealed Tuesday:

Catcher: Joe Mauer, Twins
First base: Mark Teixeira, Yankees
Second base: Robinson Cano, Yankees
Third base: Evan Longoria, Rays
Shortstop: Derek Jeter, Yankees
Outfield: Carl Crawford, Rays
Outfield: Ichiro Suzuki, Mariners
Outfield: Franklin Gutierrez, Mariners
Pitcher: Mark Buehrle, White Sox

JETER? You gotta be shitting me. The Gold Gloves are a joke. Not too sure about Teixeira either, but the writers were not gonna give it to Daric Barton.

NL Awards tomorrow...

Elvis Andrus should be the gold glove SS.

 Fuckin' Yankees.

Being a Yankee automaticaly adds more votes to anything they are involved in. ROY, CY Young, Gold Glove, HOF...

He had 16 errors.

Jeter had 6

Jeter led the league in fielding pct.

He was second in Zone rating.

Texiera was second only to Casey Kotchman (116 games) in fielding pct

I realize its not all fielding pct...but the Yankees that one all had great defensive years.

Ozzie Smith was still receiving them years after he was the best SS.

It's a popularity contest.

East coast bias. Where'd you get those numbers from, ESPN?

Longoria has 14 errors at 3B and he got the gold glove. Is the award simply given to the person with the lowest errors?

No as I wrote in what you quoted, its not all fielding pct.

I just think the Yankees who won happen to be legit this year.

I'm not sure what stats you are looking at , but Jeter's -4.7 UZR was 2nd worst among regular SS. Like you said stats aren't everything, but even a semi-casual observer can tell you he has no range.

In my mind he's undebatedly worse than Alexei, Pennington, Andrus, Izturis, and possibly a few others. The voters are ridiculous. They gave it to Palmeiro one year even though he only played about 30 games at 1B.

The great Future Hall of Famer and Glorious New York Yankee Captain DEREK SANDERSON JETER garners yet another well deserved award!

This man is truly one of the most special players to ever don a Major League Baseball uniform. Years from now, when we are old, gray and/or dead, we will look back and marvel at this Mozart/Einstein/DaVinci of the Diamond! How lucky we were (we will say) to watch this clutch ballplayer in action!

Next year, when DEREK SANDERSON JETER reaches 3,000 hits, I will be planning a board event, and I will be buying free drinks for everybody! Except Spanky, who will not be invited. I am guessing June 28, 2011. Mark your calendar!

Not to be a smart ass but I posted the stats im looking at.

You find my numbers outdated or irrelevant, fine. But I did point out his rankings in fld pct and zone rating.

The 2010 National League Rawlings Gold Glove winners, as revealed on Wednesday:

Catcher: Yadier Molina, Cardinals
First base: Albert Pujols, Cardinals
Second base: Brandon Phillips, Reds
Third base: Scott Rolen, Reds
Shortstop: Troy Tulowitzki, Rockies
Outfield: Michael Bourn, Astros
Outfield: Carlos Gonzalez, Rockies
Outfield: Shane Victorino, Phillies
Pitcher: Bronson Arroyo, Reds

3 Reds here... although Rolen is good with the leather, not sure if he is better than Zimmerman at this point. Pujols isn't the best first basemen either, but he's right behind AGonz and won in '06. Carlos Gonzalez is interesting, but with Crawford winning this year apparently LF are being considered.

It's not just a popularity contest, A7X. I heard Ranger & Drinky mentioning this topic late last night on The SCORE. I think the only reason why the Yankees' Derek Jeter got a Gold Glove yesterday and not say the White Sox' Alexei Ramirez or the Rangers' Elvis Andrus, for examples, had a lot to do with reputation. I think that also explains why A's third baseman Eric Chavez always got Gold Gloves instead of then Sox third baseman Joe Crede a few years ago.

I bet Joe Cowley voted for A.J. for gold glove at every position.

Make up your mind Johnson!

Was reputation
(a) the only reason; or
(b) a lot to do with it?

Whenever somebody slams Future Hall of Famer Derek Sanderson Jeter, you can bet your life that I will be there to correct the record.

Go ahead, try to sneak an insult against Future Hall of Famer Derek Sanderson Jeter into the wrestling or WNBA sections. I will find it and remedy it.

Amazing they didn't figure out a way to award the NL GG to Derek Sanderson Jeter.

GLORIOUS!

As long as I'm picking on Jeter, baseball nerd hangout Baseball-reference.com nicely summed up his GG

Image

That linked to this stat showing no SS cost his team as many runs at SS on defense as Jeter.
