I saw on TV that they were painting the "historic" Wrigley Field sign purple. My question is, though I honestly don't really give a crap,.....isn't this sign designated as a historic landmark? Did they get approval from the historical committee to paint this sign a completely different color?? I mean come on....The Cubs can't do anything to wrigley field without getting alderman, and mayors, and community leaders, and committee's all involved. How can they paint this historic sign purple? A travesty I say!

Wrigley Field sign has been painted different colors before... anything for money, right?

Frankly, the front of Wrigley is genius. Northwestern's AD Jim Phillips realized that NU giving up a home game for this marketing experiment very well could've backfired if it drew more attention to the Illini than to NU. So he did everything in his power to show that this is a Northwestern event. I'm still expecting about one third Illini fans even though 30K tickets were sold by NU, 3K by UI, and 5K by the Cubs. I expect that most sold by the Cubs went to Illinois fans. And there are many of those NU tickets that were sold to scalpers who bought the NU season tickets to get access to the Wrigley tickets. Overall, I think the experiement was a success. Though I doubt that NU made much money on it... I think most of the economics went to the Cubs. I have to imagine that most of the marketing benefits of this game will diminish if we lose. And next year, I suppose that season tickets will be down again... I doubt Dr. Ken is going to keep his... although I sincerely wish he would so we could grab a few beers together!

I'll be there with my two boys so that's four.

What are your pregame plans, Mud? NAA is having a "Wildcat Way" tailgate on Sheffield which the players will walk through on way into Wrigley. Beer and wine will be served.

Anything else you've heard of?

Who is else is going?

I have a group of 12 buddies coming in for the game. I'll be wandering around Saturday morning... I'll PM you my cell. Have fun!!

They are passionate but not enough to try and punch me in the face which I respect.

Haugh trying to be dramatic about the NU and Illinois program heading in opposite directions. I think it's crap. Illini are definitely heading in the right direction, last week notwithstanding. You could have said the same thing after the Purdue game for NU.

Defending the Illini football team in its current state is like defending John Gacy......they are currently not bowl eligible when any half witted team is....their defense has collapsed.....if they have had leads in the 4th quarter of 8 of 10 games...they suck...they can't close the damned deal....

They've lost exactly one game that they probably should not have lost. Minnesota. The Michigan game was a toss-up that they probably lost the edge on the road, reflected in being 3 point dogs on the road. 3 other losses to Top 15 programs and the bad loss to Minnesota. Illinois is a program struggling to its feet. It's going to have bad losses and it had one but I tend to think that we won't find any more bodies in the basement.

Aggravated Sox Fan Bob wrote:
Why can't they hire a damned football coach who can build a program without getting their asses thrown on probation?

Such as? You get someone like Mackovic and they are up and out. Picking a mid-Major or untested didn't work too well with Brewster who many Illini were clamoring for. They finally have some solid coordinators and it has shown on the field. You've got those guys signed for 1 more year. You've got almost all your best players coming back - Leshoure, Scheelhaase, Jenkins, Wilson, Liuget, Hawthorne, etc. You lose Bussey, Fayson, and Nurse and that's about it. Why shake everything up now when they are finally starting to play better?

Aggravated Sox Fan Bob wrote:
Time for you to think about the next football coach and talk up a stable and solid hoops program that just signed a great class.

Happy to talk about the Hoops program. Just let me change my cape.

Tell me exactly how many Chicago area alums pack into the car and head down to Chambana to see this mediocre football team if they don't have kids attending the school?

I know of six.

Aggravated Sox Fan Bob wrote:

I don't know any.

Aggravated Sox Fan Bob wrote:
Michigan has a far more vocal alumni in the Chicago area and are far more passionate about their football team than Illinois does....and you know it.
Hell, it isn't your fault...but why in the hell can't Illinois build a consistently good football team????

Yeah, but then you'd have to go to Michigan. I accept my share of the blame.

Those baseball locker rooms can be a little tight for the football players and their equipment.

If NU football is pathetic, I'm glad my team isn't Indiana, Purdue, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan . . .

Yes, a BCS bowl win last season is certainly something to be embarassed of to go along with the two additional January 1 wins over the last 6 years.

On any given Saturday both Iowa and Purdue are capable of pulling out a win against NU and both have a track record of playing them tough.

I'm pretty sure the Illini are favored tomorrow.

Illini -8 is the line. I'm guessing NU -1 with a healthy Dan Persa. However, now it's:

Blackhawks' Jim Cornelison will be the anthem singer for the Allstate Wrigleyville Classic. Kinda cool!

You would think a school that has produced graduates like NSJ would have been smart enough to figure this out way before now.

That's really bad if true. How bad would it suck to have seats near that end zone? You will have a terrible view all game.

My guess is that this is the last football game ever there. That's a shame because it's a really cool idea.

I guess Northwestern was only concerned about making money first before integrity.
