I hate to say anything positive aboot Stu Scott, but he's right. Portland has to be thinking they are snake-bitten. They draft Sam Bowie instead of Jordan, and then Oden instead of Durant.

I think Oden really needs to go to Chatsworth and get the porn career started.

None of that makes up for Michael Jeffrey Jordan. And if Kevin Durant continues to progress, that's two of the best scorers ever.

They've had good drafts. Nothing can ease the pain of losing out on Jordan and Durant.

Who would have thought Bogut would be the better #1 pick

That's profane.

The Jordan stuff is hindsight. It would've made absolutely no sense for them to draft Jordan in '84. They already HAD Clyde Drexler. They played the exact same position. Jordan and Drexler on the same team on the same court would not have worked. Now, of course Jordan became the best to ever play the game, but how could they have known that would happen? At that point, Clyde was a better player than Jordan. Their need was for a big man and they got one. Just turned out to be the wrong big man. That's all. They should've felt worse for losing out on Olajuwon, who was also in that draft.

Oden was also a bad pick, but it was a logical move. Again, how could they have known Oden would be an injury-plagued Dog?

I agree but if I'm a GM I think long and hard about taking any large center with the #1 pick. The last two have been Yao Ming and Greg Oden. Both have been good or great when playing but injuries are constantly an issue.

Here is my theory. Young kids play more basketball than ever now. AAU, high school, practice, pick up games, and then college/international competition put a ton of mileage much earlier on these kids. The bodies are so big that it takes a larger toll on them then it would someone like Rose or Durant. In past decades the players didn't have the same amount of things they were involved in. Even for middle school kids it's become a full time job to be a basketball player.

i didn't think oden was a GREAT player to begin with, just a BIG one. you only saw him in one year with ohio state and i thought at times he looked pretty awkward in the post.

this game is faster than it used to be, and i think going with a hybrid PG/SG or 6'8" SF/SG is a better option to start a franchise around than a center.

For the most part, that's true. Dwight Howard is the only true exception to the rule right now. I'd consider him a throwback.

I'm not saying that either pick was illogical. I was talking about from a fan perspective. Knowing you passed on those two would make a fan crazy I think.

Agree with all this, but didn't Akeem go first? They didn't really miss him then. Bowie would've at least been decent had it not been for injuries. We still dont even know if Oden can even play, as some already have said.

Let's see how Durant ends up before doing the Jordan/Bowie comparisons though.

There was a white stiff from Indiana who was historically bad... although I'm not sure who would take any white guy from Indiana with the top pick..
