Here's an example of what I was talking about in regards to posters bragging about stuff intentionally or unintentionally.

Not personal Zacharia, just using this as an example.

i thought about that; that is not bragging. i'm explaining why i hear these songs so often. i realize i have a lot more time than a lot of people do (kids, longer working hours, commute), and i don't take it for granted.

It's funny when people hate a certain kind of music and then refer to some different kind of music they enjoy, which ends up being crappy...

The one thing that I learn anytime there's a music thread on this board:

No matter who the band is, someone hates them. That means that everyone is wrong and no one is right.

This is why we must use the bell curve. There will always be outliers.

So... you never ever listen to music while you work or mow the lawn or something?
I mean, when you do listen to music it's like never 20th century or newer?
Or is this just a board meme?

I dunno, if hating the Eagles, Rush, Lenny Kravitz, Boston, and the rest of these shitty bands is wrong, then I don't wanna be right...

At the risk of being grilled, the Eagles have some great songwriting, Rush are amazing musicians, Lenny Kravitz wrote a few decent songs on questionable ability and Boston's first album is legendary, albeit overplayed.

I'm certainly not advocating universal approval of ANY music, but to say this music sucks or that music is bad is shortsighted, but I understand the humorous intent...

It's mostly board meme. Although the 20th century =/= rock and nothing else. I've been listening to a lot of bluegrass music lately.

I prefer the more traditional bluegrass to the progressive stuff, but Nickle Creek is pretty good. The XM station plays their stuff a fair bit, and I heard some on a recent road trip.

I wouldn't know where to start with genuine bluegrass. I do like the neo-bluegrass stuff like Old Crow Medicine Show and Punch Brothers, though.

I'm intrigued by JORR's now-lifelong aversion to Tortoise. One of three possibilities:

1) He thinks the band sucks so much that he heard them once and said that was enough
2) He ran with a dangerous crowd who made him listen to "Djed" every time they got high
3) This is, after all, JORR, so he got in a drunken brawl with David Pajo at Lollapalooza and lost, but not without briefly setting him on fire

He's close. I think he's considered more traditional country but the lines aren't always crystal clear.

For the traditional stuff, the Foggy Mountain Boys are about as good as it gets IMO. If you don't like them, you probably wouldn't like traditional bluegrass. If you do like them, that's a good place to start.
