Forgot about him. Good call. The voice effects might have got old quick though.

Not if he used them judiciously and only to save segments.

Magic Johnson...One of the NBA's best players of all time, but host of one of the worst late night talkers ever!

What if a game show host got a talk show?

Ah...That would never, and has never, happened

Pat Sajak tried his hand at a late night talk show, long before David Letterman and "The Late Show". The "Wheel of Fortune" host swung & missed at his own CBS talker back in the early '90s.

You throw that in a pot with some potatos and carrots, and you got yourself a stew going.

That definitely counts. Like Magic Johnson, Joan's own latenight show in the early years of FOX didn't last long either.

While I've expressed my enthusiasm for Goff in the past, I don't think his recent co-hosting stints with Mac have been that successful. He talks over Mac a lot--often to make points that aren't that interesting or funny--and actually doesn't interact that well with Mac, sometimes appearing to ignore him completely. He really seems to have gotten an inflated sense of his abilities and evolution as a talk show host, a fact which frequently transmogrifies "The Danny Mac Show" into "The Jason Goff Standup Comedy Hour." Goff needs to understand that refraining from speaking is often more important than uttering every nonsensical thought that enters your head for everyone to hear. While he's far more talented and interesting than Spiegel, he nevertheless frequently fails to elicit the best in Mac when partnering with him. His obsessive self-assertiveness/self-promotion inadvertently turns what should be a stellar pairing into a lackluster show. Goff appears to believe that he has reinvented comedy. In reality, he's simply reworked an old recipe for uninspiring radio. Until he becomes a more disciplined and less selfish co-host, he should remain a bench player at the station.

You know Spark, now that we're out of the 90s and I've had a chance to go back and look at some of Arsenio's material from when he was popular, I'm realizing that he really wasn't funny. I mean, he was Eddie Murphy's best friend, which gave him instant credibility but Arsenio wasn't all that. Damon Wayans would've made a better late-night host.

Spiegel isn't in the same league as Goff. Meatpant's is a lightweight who isn't ready for prime time & never will be.
Mac knows this.

If I recall correctly, Carson himself hosted a game show before signing onto the Tonight Show
