According to ESPN, Miami coach Randy Shannon dismissed after loss to USF.

UMN will be happy.

Because he was too good at keeping his players out of jail?

Lose to South Florida. AnNd he was way to good at holding kids accountable. Needs to e more like UF and get the arrest up to be successful.

I am not suprised, Shannon got some big wins, but never capatilized on them, like this year on a roll at 3-1 come home to play FSU and get drilled. It's been like this the previous years, and add to that the quarterback situation is a mess right now, start Stephen Morris when Jacory is healthy and Shannon said Jacory would start when he was healthy, well not today. Also, the Canes should be dominating at home, and to lose 3 games at home this year and now 2 straight, not suprised.

I think with also firing Whipple too, they are cleaning house and I hope they go for a big name and my pick is they call CBS College Sports t.v. and say hello to Mike Leach. 2 other guys are Mark Richt from Georgia, thought I heard his name before maybe going to Miami and if he lost to Georgia Tech, he probably would have been fired too, and the guy that could have had the job a couple years ago, Greg Shiano from Rutgers, but his program is starting to take steps back, so I hope the U passes on him.

I want Leach, can coach the offense and Miami always produces defensive players, so get somebody to coach the defense well and I think the Swagger can come back. The one year I heard Texas Tech had a good defense, Leach came close to taking Tech to the national title.

My guess is Mario Cristobal at FIU. Miami doesn't have all that much money to play with.

I just wonder if they would bring in another former Cane to coach after it didn't work that well with Shannon.

True, but at least Cristobal has some experience. Not good experience, but experience.

I'm just not sure how desirable a destination it is. Miami looks really appealing from the outside, but has poor facilities, and awful fan base, and sky high expectations. We shall see.

True, I just heard Mark May say this is wrong, and for those reasons, but maybe if Miami gets in a coach, that can get them in the top 10 and be a consistent championship contender, the facilties can be improved and people will come out, most people seen the 30 for 30 special, The Canes helped make a Miami a desirous location.

Shannon did what he needed to do there. He cleaned up the program, recruited fairly well locally and made them competitive again. Now it is time to get someone to take them to the next level. This is probably more on whipple than shannon. The D has looked fine under Shannon which is his specialty. Its the offense that looks bad and makes repeated dumb mistakes. The receivers were always running wrong routes.

The local fan base is sickening. Seeing a few thousand if that in the stands yesterday was pathetic.

Michael Irvin needs to work their on the recruiting team.

To be fair, most of the Miami fans were barred from going by the terms of their parole. Can't be with other felons you know.

;)

John Gruden rumored to be possible Head Coach at the U.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... candidate/

edit: Well so much for this idea. It has already been shot down by Gruden.

Collegefootballtalk.com had some of the guys I thought, Richt basically said, but Leach is at the top.

Urlacher's missing neck, Let's I think your right, Shannon came in and cleaned it up and now somebody has to get it to the next level.

On the fans, I think it's always been out there that people don't go to the games, I heard that about Miami from people wanting to sell dvd's of their games, guys mostly would want to watch girls in swim suits than old games. It could be true about their home games too. Now if the team is undefeated yesterday, probably a packed house.

On Gruden, don't know how he would do in college, but I think he's looking at some of the pro jobs that could be opening up.

I just heard what Miami may do, is call Michigan and get Rich Rodriguez, thinks he could win there in about 2 years, since Rich Rod is not a Michigan man and could recruit well at Miami.

Well collegefootballtalk.com has a report right now that Jon Gruden will be the head coach of the U, baring any last minute glitches. I guess there is a couple of diffrent people reporting this and his brother Jay would be the offensive coordinator.

According to a report on the Rivals.com website CaneSport.com, and we’re quoting here, “final details are being hammered out and, barring a last minute [sic] glitch, Jon Gruden will be the next Miami Hurricanes football coach.” The site goes on to write that “[d]etails are being finalized tonight and if athletic director Kirby Hocutt and Gruden can work out all details then an announcement could be made as soon as Wednesday.”

The site also reported that Gruden’s brother Jay is expected to become the Hurricanes’ offensive coordinator.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel‘s Steve Gorten is also reporting much of the same information, tweeting that, according to two sources close to the situation, Hocutt and Gruden are meeting Wednesday to finalize the details of a contract. In a separate report, a university source told Jorge Milian of the Palm Beach Post that the pursuit of Gruden “is not yet over.”

If it does happen, I wonder if he leaves the booth now, so he can start recruting and it makes me think that people are telling him that he is not getting an NFL job.

While I heard ESPN Radio's Colin Cowherd mention the possible Jon Gruden hiring at the University of Miami as a possible touchdown in regards to recruiting and interest in the school's football program down there, ProFootballTalk.com's Mike Florio's not so sure it's a done deal by any means. Florio seems to think that Gruden might be using the Hurricanes as leverage in hopes of possibly landing another NFL head coaching job. During his hit today with Mac & Spiegs on The SCORE, Florio mentioned the 49ers, Browns & Broncos' jobs in particular. The latter of the three contrary to what Broncos' owner Pat Bowlen told AOL Fanhouse during the 49ers/Cardinals' "Monday Night Football" yawner that Josh McDaniels will return for a third season as the head coach in Denver.

Well Shark, I also heard Colin Cowherd talk about Gruden coaching the U, but a report on ESPN says zero chance Gruden takes job.

Mike Leach said he would like to coach Miami and since no Gruden, of course an ESPN report, I would welcome Leach.

I could've sworn Mike Leach just filed a lawsuit vs. ESPN in the Texas Tech/son of Craig James scandal...

Another name to add and I guess there are reports that he said he would listen is Uconn coach Randy Edsall.

Reents, when you usually think of University of Connecticut athletics, the men's & women's basketball teams immediately come to mind. While Men's head coach Jim Calhoun has turned out a number of NBA players and Geno Auriemma has a women's team that hasn't lost a game in at least 2 years, Randy Edsall has put UCONN on the football map and has to be in the discussion for any number of college and NFL coaching vacancies across the country.

I don't think The U is interested in the spread offense. The streak is all they have and Mike Leach will not keep the streak alive.

You could be right Urlacher's missing neck about putting people into the NFL, the only player on offense is Michael Crabtree that I can think of, no qb's, of course I think the last one from the U that started was Ken Dorsey.

It's just that Leach could bring the swagger back. It sounds like Dan Mullen is off the list.

Wes Welker and Michael Crabtree say hello.

Mike Leach + Miami's talent = quick and sudden death for the rest of the ACC. The lack of serious consideration by other teams suggests that he is fully toxic though.

I think all of the 'fat little girlfriends' at the U have conspired against Leach.

Some names I haven't heard but might make some sense....

Schiano - Rutgers isn't what it used to be.
Mark Stoops - time to get a head job?
Dan Mullen - Did a great job at Miss State

I am all for it being Schiano. They just can't convince him to leave Rutgers.

On those 3 names, sounds like Mullen is staying at Miss. State, I think the U wants a coach with previous head coaching experience and a guy that gets the fan base excited, that could knock out Mark Stoops. On Schiano, I think his time take the job was a couple of years ago, now Rutgers isn't winning, so not the hot commodity that he was.

Leach, may not put a lot of players in the NFL from Texas Tech, but he's the guy I want for the job. If he could get a top wide receiver like Crabtree to Texas Tech, just think the kind of player he could get to Miami.

It would be interesting to have him there. Aside from douchebag Craig James Junior they players seem to like him so I think he could still recruit well. I kinda wish they could somehow bring Shannon back as the DC, which they obviously can't do.
