Haven't you heard? The Minnesota win doesn't count - they are terrible and won't beat any good teams all year.

It's a damn shame that they have to play in the fucking pizza bowl. They deserve a real bowl game.

In true NIU fashion - they will probably lose Friday and "slide" to a slightly better bowl.

Argument from haters club:

"But Minnesota had something to play for while Iowa had nothing to play for. Minnesota really wanted that rivalry trophy, oh so bad."

You know, ever since i have been following NIU we seem to have lost games we shouldn't have. They have always found a way to disappoint me.

Before every year i have taken it with a grain of salt, but this team has not had a single letdown against an inferior opponent.

We have outscored our MAC opponents 372-127. That's an average of 47-16.

The last team to go undefeated in the MAC with an average winning margin of 30+ points....#10 Miami with an 11-1 record. I'm not saying this team is as good as that Miami team, but just saying. Under the current BCS rules, that Miami team would have played in a BCS bowl.

Illinois must have been an inferior opponent, I mean they aren't even ranked.

Oh alright, you got me...minus losing to the #4 team in the state of Illinois.

1. NIU
2. Notre Dame - you'd never know they were from Indiana considering the infatuation of the Illinois press
3. Western Ill
4. Illness

I guess geography isn't offered at NIU.

Didn't you know? Notre Dame is as much of an Illinois school as it is Indiana. They do receive all the press in this state.

If getting press in that state equates to actually being in the state, NIU shouldn't be ranked at all...

St. Xavier is in the NAIA semis. Where do they rank in the state football rankings?

SXU would piss on North Central.

Interesting little tidbit when you consider these schools that are playing seven, eight home games nowadays...

I don't see Illinois or Northwestern ranked in the top 25.
NIU is the best team in the state.

You think if Illinois played the same schedule as NIU they would have a worse record?

So, I was perusing the Daily Herald this morning, looking for some knowledge from the latest Seacrest column, when I decided that I wanted to check the Big Ten standings again since the latest Iowa loss.

I soon discovered that the MAC standings were directly below them. I decided, just for fun, to check the Out-of-Conference records for each conference. I discovered -

MAC - 22 games under .500
Big Ten aka "Little Sisters of the Poor" - 27 games over .500

And, to be even more specific, there was only one team in the MAC that had a record over .500 and it wasn't the University of Northern Illinois. Seems like the MAC is really good at beating teams in the MAC - not so good at beating teams not in the MAC.

Fun fact.

Did you also discover the discrepancy in the number of OOC home games for little sisters of the big ten and the MAC?

NIU played three BCS teams on the ROAD.

I wouldn't be surprised if 70%+ of the MAC's OOC games were played on the road while 70%+ of the little sisters of the big ten played that same amount at home.

Breakdown of OOC home games:

MSU - four
OSU - four
Wisky - three
Iowa - three
Ill. - two; one neutral site
PSU - three
UM - four
NU - two
UP - three
Minny - three
Indy - three
___________________
Total OOC home games: 34 of 44 (77%)

NIU - one
UT - two
MU - one
OU - two
Temple - two
WMU - two
KSU - two
BSU - two
CMU - one
EMU - one
BGSU - one
UB - two
UA - two
_______________
Total OOC home games: 21 of 52 (40%)

Huge discrepancy between OOC SOS and # of home games. Must be nice to not have to play all those road games.

I would call those lots of 'fun facts'!

Also - Dr. Ken's 'fun fact' has absolutely nothing to do with what has been the ongoing debate - which in-state team is the best right now?

I love that NIU's best season ever has been ruined by losing, quite handily, to, what was at the time, a fairly average Illinois team.

"Ruined"? It didn't change anything then, and it didn't change anything now. We lost our shot at the BCS Championship* week #1.

*Down boy (Irish version) - I'm being sarcastic. I wasn't expecting anything more than the Fiesta Bowl this year.

You gotta make sure you have that disclaimer for Irish and Liquid, otherwise they think you are serious about ND being in Illinois.

So gullible...
