That completely sucked (let the record show I predicted this would happen last week). NIU's defense was terrible on that last drive - the announcer was praising them for being aggressive instead of going into "prevent". That aggressiveness (otherwise known as stupid-ass play calling) cost them the conference championship. Cry me a river, ladies.

Harnish has to get a pass away on the last play.

I'm hoping that the only bright side to this is that they stumble into a slightly better bowl with a more attractive match-up.

Is something to to happen in the next 3 hours that will get NIU ranked in the BCS?

It's also less likely that your coach will be offered another job at a bigger school.

Thanks NIU fans. If you guys hadn't climbed up on the your crosses about your program I would have completely ignored this game. Instead I was mildly amused watching them fail while the Bulls game sucked.

No. But of course you you never mentioned that.

Funny how you didn't respond to the BCS thing the whole week...but here you are on a Friday night after they lose for the first time in 3 months.

I mentioned it in this very thread today. You brought up the fact that NIU is ranked in the BCS and is therefore a better team.

Don't be mad because your own logic came back to bite you.

Why would Jerry Kill leave NIU for a shit football program like Indiana? Bigger school, yes...but with virtually no chance of turning things around.

Money, exposure, facilities, better access to bowl games, bigger national presence, and pretty much everything else. The bigger question is why wouldn't he? He probably won't be offered though.

Except it didn't, dumbass (make sure you whine to me that I called you that 10 months from now - I'll feel just terrible). My "logic" was that when NIU is ranked in the BCS and nobody else in the state is - they are the best team in the state at that point. Not exactly some abstract thought there. Try to wrap your head around it. Nothing about that "logic" is biting me.

Again - all week long, NIU was ranked in the BCS - you never said anything about it. In fact, none of the NIU "detractors" around here did. Because it was true. Tonight you choose to. What a strange coincidence.

NIU will be going to a bowl game for the 3rd year in a row, and Rick says Kill will have "better access to bowl games" at IU.

You just bit yourself with your own logic.

Did you watch an Iowa game by chance? Sounds like a familiar story.

No, I didn't see that last Iowa game.

But I've seen enough shitty end-of-game defense for one season. This is one was a kick in the nuts.

Plenty of people responded that the win over NIU should count more than that. In fact, that's pretty much what my initial post in here was saying too. Your response was "BCS standings!".

So am I expected to respond every time that you or NIU_Huskie go overboard with your NIU homerism? You've complained before that I will argue constantly. Now you are mad I didn't earlier in the week.

Well, in all (area) fairness....the NU bowl games are the only ones originally available three seasons in a row --- not on tape delay. ;)

So, while Brick may be....what you think he is  ...NIU's 'BCS' ranking won't mean squat in a week.

You just bit yourself with your own logic.
Indiana was one win away this year from going to a superior bowl than the MAC champion. The top 7 teams in the Big Ten will go to much better bowls than the MAC champion.

It is a fact that Indiana has better access to bowl games. Indiana has gone to the Insight Bowl in the past few years. That's better than any bowl NIU has gone to in that time frame.

I'm sorry. Your going to have to be more clear next time. I get real confused as to whether I'm having a conversation with just you or with the "plenty of people" that you are now speaking on behalf of. Typical BR bullshit.

I made the first post about NIU's BCS rankings on Monday. Your first response to that was tonight. But then 5 minutes after the game ends, you're on here chirping about who isn't the best team in the state. The state of Illinois, BTW - the state you neither live in or went to school in. Tell me again why you even care?

I'm gonna need a translator on RR's post.

I wasn't around on Monday. I glossed over it but didn't pay much attention. Today, I made a post in this thread. You responded that MOH would be better if it was ranked in the BCS and Ohio State wasn't. Today, NIU lost that advantage over Illinois. It's pretty simple.

Are you really questioning my Illinois credentials? I don't know what to say in response to that.

Wow. This post is full of 'FAIL', as the kids say.

Did you know that Vanderbilt was only 4 wins away from a bowl game and, even better, UCLA was only 2 games away from one? Who the hell cares "how far away" a team is from a bowl game? That's the best way you have to describe Indiana's "better access" to bowl games - all of the one's they don't make?

Sorry, but the random bowl games that seem to pop up around the state of Texas aren't "much better bowls" than the one in Detroit either - unless you have some strange standards on what "much better" means.

Mark this down - Rick is bragging about the lofty status of IU football. I'm sure this "logic will come back to bite him" later.

Nobody is questioning anybody's "credentials". Are you drunk? Traumatic head injury recently? Who brought up "credentials", other than you? I asked why do you care so much about the discussion of which team is better between Illinois and NIU?

BTW - Illinois is doing a great job of exhibiting their superiority so far........

A 6-6 Big Ten team will almost always go to a better bowl game, and at almost always at least go to an equally good game. If they go 7-5 or 8-4 they are in serious contention for NYD bowls which NIU has no access whatsoever too outside of going 12-0 and being the best non-BCS school. Let me put it another way. Indiana would not have to improve that much to make the Texas Bowl or the Alamo Bowl.

Maybe it's just me but playing in the Texas Bowl and the TicketCity Bowl on NYD is better than the Motor City Pizza Bowl. Argue otherwise if you want.

Saying that Indiana is a step up from NIU is not exactly a controversial statement. Have you seen IU's facilities?

You mentioned that I didn't go to school in Illinois and I didn't live there currently.

I'm talking about it because I want to and because it drives you crazy.

I've seen other posters here, this week I believe, bash Indiana's football facilities. Yes, they made some improvements in the one endzone.

I'd say if you ranked all of the football facilities in the Big Ten, IU's would be.........9th or 10th? Somewhere in there with NU and Purdue.

It also added a lot of weight rooms, study rooms, coaches offices, and other stuff. The facilities were bad. They are significantly better now.

For the Big Ten, it's below average but when you have some of the richest programs in the whole country that's not a shock. All of them will improve greatly with the 20+ million a year they are getting from television a year. Even with that said, there is really no comparison to whoever is the worst in the Big Ten and whoever is the best in the MAC.

NIU to Indiana would be a major upgrade in facilities for Coach Kill just like SIU to NIU was.

I should have asked this earlier - has there been a Kill-to-IU rumor anywhere but in your own mind? I haven't heard that......

I'd agree that Kill is not an "NIU for life" guy like Novak was. He will "move up" at some point. He's an idiot if someplace like IU is that next step. That's where coaches go to watch their careers die.....

I'm under the impression that he's considered one of the next coaches to jump from the MAC to a BCS program. There is a decent record of success there. Interestingly enough, his health issues may actually hurt him in that regard even though he's supposedly fine.

His "health issues" crossed my mind again tonight. Being honest - even though it shouldn't matter, if I was the AD/Prez of a "big money" program, his health would be a factor in my decision. Only a completely superficial level, he doesn't even look 100% healthy, FWIW.
