So today Silvy tells us he wants to make sure the new color guy for the Cub's radio booth is funny. Not sure if he thinks Santo was acting to be funny, I think he was just being himself- but Waddle even asked if he wanted a standup comedian and Silvy said YES. They ruled out Grace (only to TV if Brenly moves on) and thought that Otto was competent but unfunny. F'n Waddle even says maybe Jim Belushi- kill me now!

I'm out in the barn yelling at the radio- it seems obvious that Silvy is already campaigning for Harry T to move to the booth with Pat! Does that open up for Carmen, Yurko and Silvy to follow a network mid-morning show or something else?

To further show their contempt for Sandberg, the Cubs will hire Joe Morgan as Santo's replacement.

I think I'll apply for the position; I'm diabetic, make strange noises, and wore #10 when I played ball.

The closest in spirit to Santo's style would be:

Mitch Williams, Rick Sutcliffe, and Mark Grace are some good possibilities. Former Cubs with personalities.

i was going to chime in with ronnie woo-woo, but i was just beat to the punch.

honestly... shit, this is a good question. i think dave otto is a nice fill-in-guy but too closely resembles nyquil to get the gig full-time. does mark grace want out of arizona, or is he running for mayor over there?

i bet doug glanville could grow into the role, however the boooyeahs just gave him a nice deal. stoney seems to have burned his bridges with the cubs, especially since mcdonough is gone... not to mention he probably prefers being a TV guy. yeah, with the sanctimony duly noted, i still like stoney.

i wonder if the cubs are going to try and bridge some of the santo -> replacement gap by hiring an ex-cub. obviously the concept of the pat-n-ron show is OVAH! but i could see them wanting an ex-cub in order to keep the same kind of home-cookin' going on. santo proved that you can be more of a personality than an analyst, so going through the cubs roster of the last ~20 years... shit. who's a middling player with a colorful personality who could use the paycheck and endear himself to the multi-size bear-n-bat pre-beat-up-hat "let's get a sharpie and write a message on this hat and leave it on the bricks" contingent?

i know! kent mercker. make it so.

Dave Otto is awful. I don't understand why so many people enjoy him. Otto is a dull & uninteresting announcer.

S&W didn't think Grace would step down to radio or give up his weekend tv gig, so he is unlikely. I think Sutcliff could still be a persona non grata with his :drunken: incident. Could it be a way for Ryno to stick with the team ala Brenly/Boudreau? A glance a few miles south tells the Cubs what not to do: Hawk+anyone and Farmer+anyone =SUCK.
Maybe they copy bad MNF and bring in Chris Rock? Steve Cochrane is available, and has WGN security clearance. Hell, Murph is looking for work, right? the bad ideas are alot easier than the good ones.

And K, great call on Passero's in St. Joe's. Took a family vacation there last year and that was some of the best Pizza I've ever had.
