Forget the thing I put about La. Tech, I was just checking again and seen that was a report from last year, if Wilson does go to IU, and since some of you put he could do well in recruting, we will have to see if he knows defense, since he is an offensive guy. This season, IU had a decent offense, but not much on defense.

Never mind about the Fedora stuff, as that has been shot down.

The Arkansas State coach has been fired, which is mostly uninteresting, except that Gus Malzahn is from Arkansas. If major programs have been reluctant to give the job to a "mere" coordinator, that would be a logical location. Not expecting that, just throwing it out there.

This job was just filled yesterday, by Hugh Freeze. Button 48 moment. He is very close friends with my cousin, who is the head baseball coach at a community college in Mississippi.

Really? - speculation on your part or do you have a source? I thought Boise St.'s Peterson was the man that was expected to go there?

99% official. All over the interwebs. Minnesota may have confirmed it.

Joe Schad is confirming.

The Minnesota boards are FURIOUS, for whatever that's worth.

I can see this from Minny-ha-ha boards. He's a good coach but they are still living in the past and thinking that they are better than a good MAC coach. Basketball must have spoiled them.

So Spanky is Kill an idiot for taking the Minnesota job?

So does Kill just go and upset a bigger program and then at the end of the season take the HC position at that school? The first I remember hearing of him he was at SIU and they went up and beat NIU and the next year he was hired by NIU. Now he beats Minnesota and gets hired by them.

I can't blame the Minnesota fans for being mad, I mean you hear them talking about wanting to get a big name like Mike Bellotti or Phil Fulmer, and then there was talk of Ken Nuetimalo from Navy, and you get a guy who last seen lost his conference title game when he was big favorite.

I think the first thing Kill has to decide at Minnesota is at quarterback, do you put Marquise Gray there who played wide receiver, or go with somebody else.

I think Gray becomes the QB and he's a run pass option like Harnish was at NIU. He's got size and speed.

We can just cut ti the chase on this one, since this is what you're getting at:

Minnesota job > Indiana job, no question.

Here is what you said:

spanky wrote:

So you are telling me that Minnesota is not some place like IU?

Minnesota maybe a better job than IU, but I don't think it is just a cut and dry no brainer.

No doubt both schools are bottom tier teams in the Big 10.

I think you can make a pretty solid argument based on the facility upgrades and recruiting classes over the last couple years that IU is a better job.

Minnesota just built a brand-new stadium.

And Minnesota has a past tradition of national championships. Granted it was a long time ago, but the tradition is there.

Thank you for saving me the time. This would be point #1.

There are a few others too.

Whether Minnesota is a better job right now or not, Kill went to a bottom tier team in the Big 10, one of the schools NIU fans have been trying so hard to convince us Big 10 fans that NIU is a better program. Clearly, the statement is made: even bottom tier teams in the Big 10 are better positions than NIU.

Wow. Great job repeatedly summing up what no one else is disagreeing with. You've made your mark......

Good I am glad you agree then Spanky that all bottom tier teams in the Big 10 are better positions than NIU. Therefore, your statement that Kill would be an idiot for going to "a place like IU" is clearly one of your more stupid remarks on here, which is saying a lot.

No one was disagreeing that NIU's program is not at the same level as a Big Ten program?

I better start taking my medication again.

RFDC is getting a whole bunch of things mixed up:

A. Minnesota is a better job than IU. Minnesota is obviously a better job than NIU. No one except the only IU fan on the board has said differently about the first part. I made the statement that Kill would not take the IU job when somebody else brought it up - (a statement made to someone else, but RFDC feels passionately about that line, so......whatever) - and Kill didn't, he took a better one than the IU job. I fail to see how that was "clearly a stupid remark" as RFDC says. Like I originally stated, he didn't "end up at a place like IU". You should read this thing more, RFDC, I say a lot more stupid stuff than that.

B. There are two different conversations going on here: on one hand, arguing that NIU can compete on a regular basis with the bottom-tier programs of the Big Ten. I strongly believe that as evidenced in past discussions. The other part is "which coaching job is a 'better' one for the individual coach? Minnesota is a better coaching job than NIU - but that has nothing to do with other part.

Let try and give you simpletons another, more obvious, example of what I am talking about:

Boise St. is a 'smaller' program that competes in a much weaker conference than say, the Pac-10. That being said, BSU couild easily compete with not only the bottom tier of the Pac-10, but has proven it can hang with that conference's powers also. However - if USC, or Stanford, or UCLA comes a calling with their job vacancies - the BSU coach leaves in a heartbeat. It's a better 'job' for any coach - but that doesn't mean the football program at BSU is unable to compete with the school that has better job.

You have been trying hard to convince us that NIU was a better program than the bottom tier teams in the Big 10. Clearly that is not the case since your coach took a position with a bottom tier team. Spin that any way you like, but the facts are pretty clear. Every team in the Big 10 is a better position than NIU.

Rumors swirling that Wannstedt is done at Pitt, despite technically winning a share of the Big East this year. Not hearing any rumored names yet, but Golden might be a possibility, I suppose.

There were people at the Pitt paper wanting his dismissal after the West Virginia loss, it could be that they had some big expecations before the season and was a team that should have won the Big East. Even Skip Bayless thought they would go undefeated.

Lipid won't want to hear this, but you have to think Paul Rhoads is a possibility for this. He was the DC there for a long time.

But he cried in the locker room...and said he was proud of his team
