I think so too. But I don't think it should be Floyd.

There should be enough offense that you can accept a more defensive 3B. I absolutely hate giving positions to rookies. I would prefer the talk be that Morel must earn the spot but that they are prepared to go with Vizquel/Teahan should he not.

I'm still of the belief that there will be a trade of a starting pitcher.

I'd rather see a Vizquel/Morel platoon. Teahan's glove seems best served hiding in a corner outfield spot.

I agree on the starting pitcher deal, but I think it will be a package that includes Carlos Quentin.

37.5 for 3 years? That comes out to 12.5 a year. That's a great deal for the Sox when you consider the reports that he wanted 15 million a year and when you see what Dunn is getting at the back of his deal when he'll be Konerko's current age.

Because he was healthy for the first time in several seasons.

That's more than just being healthy man. Are you saying he has never before had a healthy season? With the exception of 08 and 03, he's playing 150+ games since he joined up with the Sox. 03 still played 130+ and 08 played 120+.
I don't think it's simply being "healthy".
It's a curious time to post career highs in these catagories is all I'm saying. Curious.

The deal is a Reinsdorf dream, backloaded AND with deferred money. 6.5 million in the last year of the deal with 1 million per year over the next six years after.

I'm not sophisticated enough to make the calculation but I would bet a money man could figure the value of this contract is closer to 10 million per year.

Paulie bent over backwards to make this deal happen as I believe he could have gotten more per year with possibly more years on the open market. This is the second time he has done this for the Sox as I believe he was offered a better contract by the Angels in 2005.

He obviously wants to be here. I didn't think that was true from what he said on the last day of the season and soon after.

I fully expect Paulie to regress back to about 280, 28, 85, which would make him slightly overpaid. In year 3 he makes 6.5 million which would make him underpaid.

We can agree that Paulie went into the 2010 season knowing that the year's end would be his last chance at a money contract right?

Hey, I think every player is suspect. If I had to bet, I'd guess Konerko had done something at some point in his career. He's looked a lot smaller to me the past few seasons. But I think his great 2010 is easily attributable to his wrist being in better shape than it has been for a few years. He looked like he was peaking in '05-'06 and then I think he hurt the wrist in '07 and he appeared to slide. I think he just felt good last year for the first time in a while. I wouldn't expect him to do it again. His bat is slowing down and a big league hitter can only get away with cheating on pitches for so long.

Pauly averaged an .897 OPS and 31 home runs during his last contract.

I think it's even more strange that about half way through last year, he seemed to already being playing under the assumption that he wouldn't be back with the White Sox. I never quite understood that.

Sure. The implication is that he somehow didn't give it his all in previous seasons, which I would dispute. He was sitting on 62 million from the last contract and sure doesn't look like a big spender. Also he has taken below market on his two biggest contracts. Money isn't his motivation.

As I said, he will regress this year to his career averages, which are still pretty good.

Probably, but he is right at the age where performance degradation begins, even for really good players. He could be a Manny or a McGriff, but I think the chances of that are slim.

I believe he's implying nothing about effort, rather that Paulie knew ahead of time that this would be his last chance at a big $$$ deal, so therefore he could prepare his medications/injections as needed.

The projected decline in his play has already been factored in with this contract. That's one of the reasons that they seemingly got a pretty good deal to keep him.

I'd term it an outstanding deal from the Sox perspective. The Sox would have been crazy not to accept these terms for him.

You know not everyone on that shit gets stupid ripped.
Besides, I don't doubt that Paulie just worked harder than he ever did before last season to earn those numbers legitimately, he probably just hit the weightroom harder and had his Flintstones vitamins and that's why his power numbers were up much higher than his average power numbers last year.
