Over the past month, my xbox has not been reading discs often when I start it up. After a few tries it would work, but now it seems like it's completely dead. If you insert a game, it says "reading" for like 1-2 seconds, and then it just goes back to the "open tray" display. It won't work for any games, cd's, or DVD's. I've been reading some tips online, and might try a few things, but I was wondering if any of you guys have experienced similar problems yourself, and how you might have fixed them. I've had the thing for about two years and don't want to have to go out and buy another one. Any thoughts?

This really could push me in the direction of getting a PS3, but I really don't want to basically have to throw out all of the 360 games I have bought over the past two years. My NBA2K11 season would be tarnished...

Also, you say you've had it for two years...did you buy it new?

I have never had one single issue in multiple years with my PS3. Just saying.

Leave it running...if it Red Rings, send it in...any RRoD failures within the first three years are fixed for free...

I think both of your just jinxed yourself, because I am going to burgle both of your homes now.

You can play your PS2, watch some TV, or make yourself a sandwich, just don't leave the room with the Xbox unattended for more than 15 mins at a time. I've had two instances of the RRoD. Both were a quick call to the Customer Service. Sent me a UPS label to send it to them.... it was back in a couple weeks and they gave me a free month of XBL too. Not fun, but not the end of the world either.

I recently updated my LIVE subscription so I am almost certain to have my XBox explode.

My brother and his roomie had this happen .... it should still be able to play non-disc games and all the other crap, but the solution was to buy a new one. Not the news you want to hear I'm sure, but it's not technically worthless (unless it does happen to RRoD ... in which case, sorry).

Also, you don't have to throw all your games out; you could FedEx them to me!

I gave it a thorough cleaning last night and it's working a little better. Not 100%, but much better than the 50 (open and close) tries it was taking before. Hopefully i'm not on my way towards a RROD.
