Yeah Bob, I'm sure the people who have been without homes and haven't been reimbursed by FEMA or their insurance companies for 18 months are sick of hearing about the hurricane too. In fact, I would suggest they are REALLY sick of hearing about it. What are you gonna do? There is just too damn much human compassion and media follow-up to government failures these days.

Having listened to Mike North enough over the years to know a little about how he thinks, I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest what's probably behind this:

Let's see, what's the main difference between most of the people who were affected by Katrina and most of the people who would be affected by snowstorms in the Rockies or the Great Plains? Hmmm? When he says all that the people in N.O. did was bitch and moan and ask for government help and people in Denver just shut up and dug themselves out, what is he really saying?

That one is easy. There are no levees for George Bush to blow up in Denver (allegedly).

Just saw a Discovery channel show on the St Augistine Parrish's recovery.

The houses in that area are not some of the shitholes that we have seen, most of them are very nice and still, almost nobody is back living there.

They reopened a 'Piggly Wiggly' and it was like a holiday, because it is the first grocery to open within 50 miles.

Most of these people are still living in trailers.

Fact is I don't think it will ever come back close to what it was. They are going to need to create some type of NEW Vegas to recover.

HOOKERS FOR EVERYONE!

Am I the only one who thinks that it shouldn't be rebuilt? I mean building a major city in what amounts to a ditch between a giant lake and the ocean was bad enough once. If you put the city right back where it was, this is only going to happen again.

I believe that 40% of the people living down there are permanently gone...they still haven't rebuilt the levies to withstand a major hurricane.

What's that saying about history repeating itself ?

I say, just make Bourbon street ridiculous, and enjoy it until the next hurricane comes.

Just as long as they keep it open through April.

On a side note, I was at a convention in NO about 10 years ago. I was alone but taking in the scene on Burbon Street. Among other things there was a group of evangelicals who set up a cross in the middle of the street. I must have looked lost spiritually or something as a woman from the group came up to me and said "did you know that Jesus loves you?" I think I suprised her when I said "yes." She didn't even do any follow up. She just walked away to talk to another person.

Everytime I have gone to "Old Vegas" ( Fremont St ), there are always these same people holding up huge crosses and huge signs telling everyone that they are sinning and going to hell. It is funny talking to them, they are really out there.

Yeah, that's a really effective way to get people to embrace Christianity.

That's what Bernstein has been saying: it'll just be Atlantic City South, with lots of casinos and hotels and stuff. New Orleans as we knew it is gone, gone, gone, and it's never coming back. We can make a little facsimile of "Ol' N'Awlins," but there's no way it'll ever be the same. This is why I'm so puzzled at bringing back pro sports being such a high priority. You have a football team whose owner doesn't want to be there, and a basketball team that nobody really asked for, and above all else, "bringing back our Hornets and Saints" has been placed at a high premium. There's no way that the delta/gulf coast region can sustain pro sports ever again. The population and the money just won't be there.

Oh, and while we're talking racial stuff w/r/t the whole "Colorado wouldn't do dis" thing, if New Orleans is going to be rebuilt as a chocolate city, the Superdome must be the deliciously rich vanilla cream filling. Screw rebuilding poor people's homes, we need to give middle-class white people a place to watch football. Brilliant. B&B are right: avoid the Booyahs at all costs until this blows over.

I thought Colorado's governor did declare it a state of emergency, with all of the federal relief that it entails.

For once, I agree with ESPN's flock of idiots. If that city's ever going to return to some semblance of it's pre-Katrina self, you have to bring the money back first. That means tourism, professional sports, hotels, casinos and restaurants come before poor people's houses. If you do it the other way around, fix the poor neighborhoods first, you're just going to end up with a giant sprawling shanty-town instead of a city.

Hotels, maybe, but sports should be out of the question. The population needed to support two teams is gone.

How about his recent comments in which he implied that the kid who was kidnapped in Missouri must have willingly stayed with the scumbag since he didn't try to escape. The best part is when North bases his argument on the fact that he would have tried to get away - as if he has any understanding of what the kid has gone through.

Also, both He & Fred absolve of all blame the California radio station who held the water drinking contest since the lady who died should have known the risk.

What the hell? Why am I suddenly agreeing with North on things? Anybody with half a brain knows you can die from drinking excessive amounts of water. Every fall there's at least one news story about some college kid that died of the exact same thing during a frat initiation stunt. Even if this stupid woman didn't pay attention to the news, you'd think she would have done a little research into what she was going to be doing BEFORE she went and did it.

That all maybe true. The lady really wanted the wii so much that she blipped over some important details. Still, radio stations shouldnt be in the business of encouraging people to get wacked , even if the people are idiots. Jackass-Sopranos-reality stations only go so far --except for ratings, which would go through the roof.

Pappy says the darndest things. Today, because temperatures in Chicago went as low as 16, he says that this proves Al Gore's global warming is all fake.

Anyone without Alzheimers who grew up in this town has to remember what a typical Chicago Winter entails.Winters are way mild compared to way back. 1967. 1979. etc. Usually 30 below Alberta clippers passing through for just a few of months. Not to mention tons of snow that bought down Mayors and Machines. What happened in Denver this year usually happens to us. A few inches of snow is not Armageddon. 20's is nothing-its just a peachy keen picnic for Chicago. Its a lot warmer in Chicago today than it used to be in the 'old' days. Global warming may be fake, but Chicago is a bad example for showing that.
