i realize not a lot of people come in this section and those guys probably don't even read the board anymore. but there was a mention last year after "TV madness" of maybe doing a "sports movie madness" but carmen said there'd be "a lot of 16's".

i think that's probably true but this is a list of 65 movies that I can think of that are either totally about sports, feature a good sports story, or are just a good movie about poker that can be included thanks to WSOP being televised on the World Wide Leader! Yeah? :D

So here's my list (as you can see, they're kind of grouped by sport but not ordered by rank):

1. For Love of the Game
2. Bull Durham
3. Major League
4. Mr. Baseball
5. The Sandlot
6. Field of Dreams
7. A League of Their Own
8. Pride of the Yankees
9. Rookie of the Year
10. The Natural
11. The Rookie
12. The Babe
13. Cobb
14. Eight Men Out
15. The Scout
16. Bad News Bears
17. Angels in the Outfield
18. White Men Can't Jump
19. Love & Basketball
20. He Got Game
21. Coach Carter
22. Glory Road
23. Space Jam
24. Celtic Pride
25. Blue Chips
26. Hoosiers
27. Semi-Pro
28. North Dallas Forty
29. The Replacements
30. Necessary Roughness
31. Everybody's All American
32. Varsity Blues
33. Friday Night Lights
34. Any Given Sunday
35. Wildcats
36. The Waterboy
37. Remember the Titans
38. The Blind Side
39. The Program
40. Gus
41. Tin Cup
42. The Legend of Bagger Vance
43. Caddyshack
44. Happy Gilmore
45. Slapshot
46. The Mighty Ducks
47. Mystery, Alaska
48. Miracle
49. Wimbledon
50. Green Street Hooligans
51. Bend it Like Beckham
52. Goal!
53. Seabiscuit
54. Secretariat
55. Let it Ride
56. Side Out
57. Gleaming the Cube
58. Lords of Dogtown
59. Rounders
60. Prefontaine
61. Chariots of Fire
62. Breaking Away
63. Days of Thunder
64. Talladega Nights
65. The Wrestler
66. No Holds Barred

some of these movies do absolutely suck balls. but i think proper seeding can be arranged.

*edit: now there's 66 movies.

I would rather watch an endless loop of "The Fish that saved Pittsburgh" than tune into another lame contest on the afternoon spitoon.

I always enjoy "Diggstown" with James Woods and Lou Gossett, Jr.

Diggstown is great. It might even be better than The Sting.

i heard from silvy that they're probably not going to do a movie madness thing anyway this year...but i just wanted to throw it out there and give as many examples as possible that it could actually be a decent contest since carmen was so dubious about it when it was first brought up last year.

even with subbing out a few of the bad ones, there's still a good 65+ movies you could come up with...

so there's also "Bang the Drum Slowly", "Diggstown", and I just remembered "Leatherheads" too even though I heard it wasn't good.

see? there's plenty of sports movies.

No way, JORR. Try to remember "The Sting" the first time you saw it.
The ending absolutely blows you away. Best surprise ever.

no sequels. as you can see, theyre not necessary. and for gods sake read the list before you start bitching. white men cant jump is on there as was days of thunder and slapshot. i missed rocky as well...i took out the air up there. above the rim is debatable. i chose to leave off documentaries. but as you can see...this contest could totally work. make it happen, saloon!

Any list without Over The Top on it is a fraud.
