I heard Mark May say Rich Rod could go to Clemson, I thought Les Miles before the season to Michigan, Hoke could be underwhelming to Michigan, but if Hoke wins, they will learn to love him.

If you need a shocker, how about the guy rumored to be the next coach at Ohio State when Tressel leaves, Urban Meyer.

By today, I obviously meant tomorrow...maybe.

The scheduled meeting with the players has been moved to tomorrow. My guess is that Michigan decided that they wanted to have the next coach lined up before the announcement. There must have been a problem.

It's an easier conference. You've got either Robinson or Forcier as your QB next year. Just need to get the defense fixed up a bit and they are a 8-10 win team again. At worst, it's a push.

that would still take a few years. he'd have to be stupid to walk away from LSU right now, given that they could be another top 10 team next year and possibly make a run for the national championship. i don't think either will happen, but it's a much more sure bet than leading michigan anywhere in the next few years.

From what i've read & can gather, Harbaugh doesn't want the Michigan job, supposedly he wants an NFL job. He would absolutely be the perfect fit in Ann Arbor though. Jim is gonna take either the Niners or Broncos job. I think he can turn the Niners into instant contenders as they have a good core of young players & are in a terrible division. Denver would be more of a challenge, especially trying to fit Tebow into Harbaughs pro style offense.

since 7-9 can be a contender in the NFC west, you're probably right.

Apparently, he's not fired. At least not yet. Before all this broke out I thought Michigan should keep him for at least another year, maybe two. Clearly he was getting the offensive side of the ball turned around and you'd assume he's start getting some top defensive recruits.

Now that this story went national yesterday, you've basically just knee capped his recruiting efforts. It's going to be a really hard sell for him in some kids living room when they know that one 6 or 7 win season he is not going to be the coach anymore.

And with the Niners he likely does not have to move his family

I have a funny feeling the day ends and RR is still the head coach.

To be fair to ESPN, they weren't the ones providing the scoop. They relied upon a couple of local media sources. They can't not report the news once its out.

If there's anything I've learned in the last 18 months, it's that local media sources (especially TV and radio) are very untrustworthy on these sorts of stories.

edited for annoying grammar error.

ESPN has never proclaimed themselves as a source for this. It's only been Fox Detroit.

But there is also a report out there that he was told he was fired, but talked his way back in to the job.

Who knows what to believe, IMO.

The thought is that they weren't actually wrong. RichRod is gone and this is designed to allow Brady Hoke to call the recruits immediately upon his firing and try and save them. This plan seems to be failing very badly though.

We'll find out today. If he is no longer the coach the report was still right.

To clarify my original thought, I understand that they got it from the local source, and were running with it...I can't remember which one of the mouth breathers said it last night, but they seemed to be emphasizing that Michigan wanted to have the replacement in place before making the announcement, and that a delay to today meant there was a problem (their words, not mine)...at least that's what I took away from the pregame.

This is terrible news for the Aztec Warriors. I think Mike Leach would be down with living in Ocean Beach though.

The athletic director at Michigan should be fired also. They have now let all Michigan's recruits sit wide open for poaching for at least 24 hours without letting the next head coach or even an interim guy be available to call them and fill them in.

There's a big problem with the firing of Rich Rodriguez in Ann Arbor, and I thought The SCORE's Jason Goff brought up a valid point when he pinch hit for Laurence Holmes last night. Goff believes that Michigan lacks a "backup plan" and believes that Jim Harbaugh's future in coaching will be in the NFL. He's not so sure that Rich Rod's firing is the right move...

They do have a backup plan, but Michigan fans will not like it.

Wasn't Kirk ferentz in the mix last time around? I'm sure that will get rumored based on his past relationship with the president at UM.

I was listening to HUb on the Score last night, and he thought Harbaugh wouldn't go to the 49ers, because he didn't like the York Family, Hub kinda thought Harbaugh would stay at Stanford.

I just wonder how many coaches will want to work with Robinson, like Hoke he would bring in a pro style offense and wouldn't want the quarterback to run much, would Robinson be willing to change.

Along with my Urban Meyer thought, I will throw out another surprise guy, I like what he's done at the school and it sounds like there's heat on him and he may lose his receiver to the draft, but Mark Richt from Georgia.

So Michigan has likely known that RichRod was gone for about 5 weeks and they are currently conducting a "coaching search"? They should have it all but locked up by now.

Yes, they are royally screwing this up. Robinson has a good arm but I don't
think he'll be much of a pocket passer. He's somewhat like a Michael Vick
but doesn't have near the accuracy. A guy could probably make due with
him for a season or two in a pro style system but ideally he'd probably be
a decent slot guy in that kind of system if he can catch the ball.

The more interesting question is in a pro style offense, you have to guess that Gardener has to go. He's a Robinson like QB that had his redshirt burned for no good reason other than RRod was pissed at Forcier. (What a waste of a year)

Robinson reported to be staying at Michigan. Although probably not the
prototypical QB Hoke is looking for to run his offense, it is important that
he stays to help out the program. If he would have bolted things could
have been exponentially uglier. You can work around some of his shortcomings
and still have a decent program once they shore up the defense.
