I forgot about this thread. I've been going to the Geneva Ale House in Geneva alot recently. Their draft selection is very lacking, but they have a great assortment of bottles. I like Heavy Handed OK but you're right- the draft selection is a bit lacking.

some things I've been ejoying recently:
Petrus Dubbel....malty, malty, malty
Nogne Winter Ale....harsh porter from the Norwegians
St. Bernardus...
Burton Bridge Thomas Sykes Old Ale...had this on cask and it was one of the more unusual beers i've had in a long time...compelling and rich. bit of a toffee flavor going on
Left Handed Milk Stout....i've been on a kick with this one lately, keeping a 6'er in the fridge. it's awesome. tried the Sawtooth Ale and was less impressed
Schneider Aventinus....another strange one...definite banana taste, malty and very carbonated almost like pop
Allagash White....heard a lot of people talking about this, tried it it's pretty nice. a nice palate cleanser after a stout or porter imo

I'm really liking all the RAM's beer.

The Frostbite seasonal from Schaumburg is awesome. The Bigh Horn Blonde and Buttface are both great. Big Red Ale IPA is tasty. The Porter is decent. I have yet to try the Hefeweizen.

Bell's packaged it on December 29th and 30th and I believe it is shipping tomorrow. The South Loop Binnys is having a tasting on January 13th at 5:30.

I highly recommend Hopslam. This is perhaps the best offering from Bell's.

they have on tap at Map Room right now. the bartender said they'll only serve you a maximum of 2. I asked for a taste first....as you might expect it has a very strong alcohol smell, like jet fuel. it drank surprisingly smooth though. i'm not sure i would get it again but of course I was very curious and I'm glad I tried it, it was very interesting.

Hefeweizen is about the only one I wasn't a big fan of. My favorites are the Buttface and the Porter.

I was there for a brewery tour last summer and they had a seasonal bock beer. I think it was called Big MyBock Beer. It had a picture of a big horned buck on it and it was super strong, 7-9%. It was really good and smooth, I had 3 after sampling all the regulars and some of others from the table they didn't like.

It is at the Plainfield Binny's this morning, limit two six packs per customer.

They have it at the new Nick's Liquors on 30 in Merrillville.

My wife surprised me with a case and a half of Hopslam. Would be willing to get rid of some for a comparable trade if anybody is interested in the Plainfield/Naperville area. PM me if interested.

I have what is probably the best beer store ever locally. Its not huge, but I also live in the middle of nowhere with a bunch of dumbass necks that only drink keith stone or busch lite or meth. This store has Alesmith Speedway Stout at all times and a few of their other beers. It has probably 6-8 Stone Brewing products at all times. It has Hopslam and Expedition Stout.

Expedition Stout was one of the first 10%+ ABV I ever had. Could barely sip one down back then.

Wonder how they managed to get that high an ABV via fermentation. Must be the yeast.

Highest ABV brew I've had is also by Dogfish Head, but it's a barleywine @ 15%, which is pretty much the highest alcohol content that fermented bevs can easily get to:

I've had their World Wide Stout years ago and it was something like 20 percent. I've also had the Sam Adams Utopias which is somewhere around 20 percent too. They do use a different yeast strain to achieve this. Most yeast dies when the alcohol reaches a certain level, but they must use some kind of yeast similar to wine yeast that thrives at this level. The only weird thing is that since its so high in alcohol it literally eats all of the possible fermentables resulting in a really thin beer that resembles cognac.

Great beer, reminds me of my go-to Winter brew, Bell's Porter.

Would like to find Lagunita's January-March Winter seasonal 'Hairy Eyeball' on tap somewhere:

luckily it's relatively easy to find in 6 packs around town, including Binny's and D&D liquors at Damen & Division.

Most places are out today. Binnys in Glen Ellyn had it yesterday but I couldn't make it there. They do have the 5L mini keg which isn't a bad alternative but I really just wanted a 6er.

Just grabbed a sixer at Sal's in Addison. Last one. had one 5L at 35 bucks.

I forgot about this thread as well. I posted this in the Drinky Board.

Has anyone on the board been able to partake in some Anchor Steam? I had it this week and it was outstanding.

Both were really good.
