ESPN can do all the promos and Chicago-angles they want but they blew it this week and it's the type of error that can forever brand a station. Their model of local/national combination leave them susceptible to blowing it on a big local story. But, I'd say Dan Patrick single-handedly coughed this one up.

It's the Tuesday after the Bears win the NFC Championship Game and from 12-3pm all I've gotten this week is Cowboy football talk. Shame on ESPN to make me punch up MIKE MURPHY for football talk. MIKE MURPHY!

In the future when I hear the Score promos stating something to the effect of "the only place to guarantee Chicago sports talk", I'll be forced to admit they are right and that is where I need to go. Didn't ESPN preempt national during the Sox WS drive?

People will remember this and it's too bad because I do like MJH.

The last couple days the Score has been running promos saying they are the Chicago sports talk station that doesn't have out-of-town programming when the biggest story is the Bears. They can hold up DPs shows yesterday and today as Exhibits A through Z.
Even though I do enjoy national sports talk when the local angle gets a bit much, the Parcells thing is beyond ridiculous. Mike & Mike were playing the funeral dirge this morning also.
AM 1000 management should demand compensation from ESPN. You are right Doctor. I don't think I'll be going back to Dan Patrick. Many others will not go back to AM 1000 at all.
Much like politics, all sports is local and when the Bears make the Super Bowl for the first time in 20 years, Chicagoans will remember we were forced to listen (for two days!) to the accolades tossed at a man resigning for the fourth time. Boo-yah indeed.

I had to shut down Mike and Mike this morning for same reason.

And again, I turn to the score after Dan Patrick launches into day 2 of the Parcells drama!

If DP had Ron Rivera on the show today, he'd only ask him about how he feels about Parcells and maybe ask about the vacency in Dallas.

DP: "So Ron, tell me how do you feel about Parcells retiring?"

RR: "I don't have time to think about that. We're preparing for the Colts right now"

DP: "So do you think he quit because of TO?"

RR: "Not sure Dan. Focused on the Colts right now."

DP: "If you were Parcells, would you have quit?"

Normally, I just tune it to AM1000 all day, mostly because I'm too lazy to get up and change the channel. Well, today I changed it to B & B for the first time. I hope I remember to tune in to MJH at 3, but they're risking losing a lot of listeners by playing this crap.

DP: Wait, favorite Parcells memory

Listener: *shotgun into mouth*

I turned on M&M after listening to Mike talk about C.Conner's interview tape and somehow that reminded Fred of a friend that collects H.Carry tapes when he was broadcasting for the WhiteSox, which Annie follows saying, "yeah, 1983 was a long time ago." Mike and Fred both correct her and say that he was a Cubs broadcaster in '83

When I switched to M&M they where talking about T.O

The Bears did win, didn't they?

Good point Juiced. I heard that portion of the MNMS also.

Maybe I should go to WLS for my Bears fix. Maybe Roma has learned to read a complete sentence on a commercial without flubbing the line.

I sent a modified version of my original post in for Critics on MJH but I doubt it will get through.

Dr, I almost drove my car into the wall when I heard Mike say that the Colts are easy to defend against because you know what they are going to do. I am thinking, he is going to break down the offense, when he finishes his statement by saying, "they are going to pass." WTF

Just another thing Mac might suggest we should not worry about. The Bears are in the Super Bowl. So what if one of the two sports radio stations in town ignores it for most of the first 9 hours of the broadcast day. Don't worry about it.

Personally, I don't care if Patrick talks about the Bears or not. It was twistedly fascinating hearing him fellate the memory of Parcells for two days. It was like some sort of filibuster he had to perform after losing a bet.
Yes, I can always turn it off and go somewhere else, which is what I eventually did. Is that something station management would enjoy hearing? Telling listeners to go somewhere else if you don't like our product usually is not a good idea for any business.
