Since this could be their last hurrah, shouldn't they be all over TV, radio and making appearances at damn near every retail establisment? C'mon down to Circuit City in Batavia and meet Super Bowl Champ Maury Buford.

I assume Ditka will be in Miami speaking into every mic put in his face.

Fridge usually has an endorsement or two every year as well.

Maybe they're getting sick of themselves.

Mongo has been a great Bears fan. He's said he's rooting like hell for this team. Mongo did say that several of his 85 teamates don't want the Bears to win because they want to be "that team" and that only team.

Don't worry guys. People will still wait in lines at the Jewel for you. Even if the Bears win you are still the better team.

the hell with the 85 team. That will be one of the great things if the bears do win I can take out of this. I am so sick of hearing about the 85 Bears. Get over it already. It's almost as bad as Cub fans that still talk about the '69 Cubs and they didn't even win jackshit.

WR does that mean that we should get over the 05 White Sox?

No, not at all. White Sox fans should still be rejoicing in it. This 85 Bears stuff just gets sooooo old. I know a lot of bears fans around here that get just as sick of it as I do.

I'd love to see the 85 Bears take a back seat and they probably would for a while but they will always be around. Don't get me wrong, I loved that team but I'm sick of them too.

The 84/89/98/03 Cubs haven't put the 69 Cubs out of mind and this Bears team won't do that either. At least the 85 Bears were a historic team and worthy of continued discussion.

But the Sox was like soooo over a year ago.

So, what is the half-life for celebrating a teams championship run?

I propose one year. Then, as you put it, one should "get over it".

So no more talk of the mythical '85 team, no more talk of the 05 Sox.

But seriously, the greatest part of being a "world champion" is the fact that you gain, for lack of a better term, immortality. The 85 bears, the 05 Sox, they earned that immortality. They earned the right to be on the tip of the Chicago Sports Fans tongue, because they were the champs. That's why there are still banners from Jordan's Heyday in the Rafters in the UC, that's why the banner is still up at the Cell.
I hope I don't get over the 85 Bears, cause that was so much damn fun.

Great post doug.

I was going to say something about Payton, Bell and Richardson not equaling half the parts.

So are you trying to say I've improperly used the term "half life"?

I knew what you were saying Darkside and I think "half-life" is appropriate. Shelf-life would work as well.

Half-life brought a radioactive-ness to the material that I thought was humorous.

Well anyway, all that aside, I don't think we should abandon our old champions. They still deserve the immortality.

I always liked the Stanley Cup because all holders put their name on it. That's kind of cool, that you earn your permanant mark on the cup. Forever.
