You were here this morning FF, so let's get some basketball thoughts going?

Who is that loser in your avatar, oh yeah, maybe the best PG in the East not named D Rose. 8)

Ahh shit just some random thoughts. I've been pretty busy down here for now.

I like Uriji. For a rookie GM he is dealing with this mess pretty well IMO. Everyone knows this season in Denever isn't going anywhere. He's not afraid of playing chicken with Melo, and it's fun to watch from the outside IMO.

Derrick Rose is the MVP of the league so far. Manu is 2nd and Wade is 3rd IMO.

I forgot where I heard this, but someone mentioned that there is no way in hell the Clippers would have the same record if their same roster played anywhere else. To me, it's more proof that the team needs an overhaul starting with Sterling on down to ever be competitive in this league. Stern needs to save Blake.

The Magic still wont be able to compete with Miami and Boston. They might be better than the Bulls, but going forward their team is a mess and Dwight Howard might not have a realistic shot at a ring in the next 3-4 years if he doesn't leave in 2012.

Boston and San Antonio are the two best teams when healthy. However, there's a slim chance they will be come May. I expect Pops and Duncan to get one for the thumb this year, although obviously the Lakers are right there with them once they act right.

I think the fact that Wade can play with LeBron but LeBron can't easily play with Wade is telling of who is actually the more unselfish player. Lots of assists does not equal unselfishness.

I'm missing a ton of them but I havent had alot of time to digest and talk sports lately

You mentioned the health of the Spurs and the C's.

After Rose, Noah and Boozer have played 30 games together, do you see them getting the 3rd seed?

I think they are the third best team in the Conference and a shoe-in for division champs, so yeah. I would like to see how this plays out this spring. Rose seems to finally have entered Alpha terriftory and Noah and Boozer give them a good start to getting the necessary bigs to compete against the big boys. They still desperately need a pure shooting 2 guard with some length and defensive acumen, too many lapses in scoring on offense that simply cant happen in big games. They definitely have the best "future" roster in the East though. I'm not sure there's even a close second.

Also, the whole Rondo vs. Rose argument... jury is still out IMO. But I think it has potential for a fantastic rivalry. Depends on what kind of roster you have to say which one is better/would be more successful.

I'll give GarPax credit for being able to successfully build this team's foundation. I hope he doesn't think the job's done though.

I think if they don't get a ring, it may be time to call out Dwight himself. He's had a good team around him for at least the last four seasons. Offensively, you could say that Orlando has the most complete team in the league...at least on paper. They have one of the most underrated PGs in the league (Jameer Nelson), outside shooters (Redick; Richardson; Hedo), slashers (Arenas), and they have a post presence (Bass; Ryan Anderson). So what's holding them back?

Despite their great start so far, I do not see San Antonio beating Dallas in a 7-game series. I have Dallas returning to the Finals this year. Mark it down.

And as much as I love the Lakers, they can easily get knocked out of the second round. Kobe's minutes are finally starting to pile up on him as he looks a step slow this year. And Pau, as great as he is in the post, cannot run a team by himself.

Welcome back Farvio.

I'll give you this... this is the best Dallas team I've ever seen(apoligies to the three J's). But we've been here before OKC

I'm not gonna put this too much on Dwight. He's never had a pass-first PG(desperately needed for the system they've been trying to run). I wouldn't call Bass/Anderson a post presence at all. I think thats the weakest spot on their team. Hell, Im worried about Noah/Carlos/Taj/Kurt being enough against LA and Boston. Finally, he's had selfish, bad defensive swingmen his whole career(save for the occasional Barnes/Pietrius type who are 8th men anyway). That roster was poorly constructed from the beginning IMO, with the only really good decision they've made since the T-Mac era being choosing Howard over Emeka

do you recall Nelson missing extended time before the Finals in 08-09? that was a pretty big piece to be missing. you're also mentioning several players they JUST TRADED FOR LIKE WEEKS AGO and saying what's holding them back?? why don't you wait until you see what happens in the playoffs before declaring such a thing?

Well that's what I'm saying Baku. I'm gonna wait and see...but I'm saying that if they don't win the East this year (yes, I expect Orlando to be in the Finals) with the talent they have, it'll be acceptable to start looking at Howard. IMO, they'd have no excuses at that point.

Fair enough.

Following the tactic of your heroes B&B, what would you like to see Howard do better? Shoot FT's? Sure. Maybe pass out of a double team better? OK. My only point is that he's a post player...he can't create his own shot so like Shaq, he's going to need a foil, someone who can do those things and who can get him the ball. I don't think it's entirely fair to lay all blame on him just because he's the best player on the team in this case

True. And like Farvio mentioned, Nelson is not a pass-first point guard. But I just wonder why he can't create his own shot. Physically, you'd think that he has all the ability to pretty much own anything inside the foul line area. Is it a matter of not working hard enough to develop a post move like a soft 1-handed jumper or a baby-hook? I don't know the answer. It just seems like he should be able to score 28 to 31 ppg instead of the 21 he's getting now.

You know, my gut instinct is to summarily dismiss this however I think he might have a shot. The circles in #basketball laugh at a couple of the militant bulls jockriders who claim Rose is MVP-caliber, hell, one of those fans tries to fight me tooth on nail with my overall malaise for LOL deng. But like, Lebron and/or Wade notwithstanding (if they somehow split the Heat vote)-- let's say that the bulls can end up either as the #3 seed, or maybe even the #2 seed if Boston continues it's fine tradition of being a .500ish team after christmas. The OKC Thunder are currently 25-13, tied for the 4th seed in the west with the Jazz, aka Bulls West. Durant leads the league in scoring @ 28.2 points, followed by Amare (26.16), Lebron (25.33), Monta Ellis (25.22), Dwyane Wade (24.95) then Kobe (24.87) then our boy D-Rose (24.33)

If Derrick can lead the Bulls to a 2/3 seed and hold on around ~25.something PPG while the Thunder hover around a 4/5 seed, then maybe there's a chance of the Heat vote getting split and Derrick can sneak in. Out of the top 3-4 teams in either league he means the most to his team, with the exception of Dirk Nowitzki possibly. The Bulls are on pace for ~55 wins, but I think they'd have to likely win 60+ while Rose brings his scoring and FG% back up for it to happen.

It won't happen, I figure, but you got me thinking that maybe this year's league featuring a bunch of ensemble teams (which the Heat technically is) Rose might have an outside shot.

I don't consider it a homer opinion at all. It's shared by David Thorpe, who's the smartest basketball person I've read/heard and has no loyalties to the Bulls whatsoever.

FINAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYY the FavreFan has come backkkkkkkkkkkk to CSFMB!

Great stuff guys, enjoying it.

I agree with FF on the fact that I think SA and Boston are the 2 best teams, but there are a lot of ifs between now and June. I am not sure either of them can stay healthy enough to win it all.

I do not think the Magic have a shot at it, they just never seem to be able to get over the hump. Perhaps they are Dallas of the East and Howard is their Dirk.

OKC I hope you are right about Dallas as I love the Mavs and Dirk, but I just have no confidence that they can get it done either. Hope I am wrong.

I just hope the Bulls continue to progress and become a top contender in the East and Miami and LA fall apart.
