We would have had our Basset Hound 11 years in January, we put her down this morning. Who knows how old she was when we got her, maybe 2 but maybe as old as 4. She was the worst dog I'll ever own.

She didn't listen.
She smelled terrible.
She barked all the time.
When we got her we had a Golden Retriever at the time that maybe barked 2x a year. After 4 weeks of the Basset in the house the Golden Retriever barked all the time as a result of the Basset barking.
She ate at various times: horse shit, her own shit, other dogs shit, kids shit when they were being potty trained.
She was incredibly athletic and could jump into cars, on top of tables. She'd to the latter to steal food.
The first two years we got her she would be the first person in the bed every night. When my wife and I would go to bed I would try to move the Basset, not out of the bed, just so my wife and I could sleep comfortably. Basset would try to bite me and bark, growl at me. After the first two years she stopped trying to bite me, but would still growl to voice her displeasure at being moved.
The last 4 months her farts were so horrible that we couldn't have guests at the house.
She ate every night between 5-6 o'clock. She would bark non-stop starting at 3 o'clock until she ate.
Taking her on walks alternated between me dragging her lazy ass behind me, or her completely stopping and laying down until she decided it was time to walk again.

I'll never ever love a dog as much her.

Sorry Post that’s a tough one. Great story. Will you guys get another dog? We put our dog down in January and after 3-4 weeks decided we couldn’t be without a dog. We rescued a 6 year old boxer and my wife, who was never a dog person LOVES this dog. I’ve never had one make it to 11 so while tough that we only have a few years with her we have loved rescuing her.

Mom's 80th birthday, so I'm back in IL this week. Grey skies, rain, and fucking cold....this place is depressing.

I live in a one car household. Last week my wife was driving to an appointment when she was sideswiped unexpectedly. Pretty extensive damage to the driver side passenger door. Enough that it will not open. Found out this morning she was hit by an uninsured 17 year old kid. Real nice. I only have 3 payments to go to pay the vehicle off and we had taken real nice care of it the last 5 years. Hoping that the damage isn't so much that it can't be fixed because I was really looking forward to no car payments for a while. Just a frustrating situation to have to go through.

My wife got sick the first day we were in Mexico. Had to fly home Wednesday. ...

Home sick yesterday with stomach flu, just couldn't get warm and shivered all day long. My wife was trying to be helpful and said she would use the snowblower. I went out, got it started and gave her a tutorial. I thought she was just going to do the driveway and sidewalk but apparently she wanted to clear a path to the back patio door. She sucked the back rug into the machine. Pretty sure the shear pin is gone. I'll have to go out there and see if I can dislodge the rug from the auger. I had to bundle up this morning and shovel the driveway by hand. 90 minutes.... and I'm cold again.

I have MANY years of experience in trying to appreciate steaming piles of dogshit.
