Trestman did good with an offense that has 2 stud WRs, a good TE, a good versatile RB and a much improved offensive line???
Tell me more about this offensive genius...
The Special Teams and Defense are terrible, he needs his share of the blame on that. People were quick to bash Lovie for having shit offense. Why does Trestman get a pass?
Mel Tucker has just overseen two of the worst defenses of all time in back to back seasons. Why does he get a third chance again?
While the offensive line is better, it's still below average. That said, you are right about the 2 WR's, TE and RB. He had lots of good weapons. The defense was okay early in the season when everyone was healthy and getting turnovers. But when the injuries took away a few starters (Briggs and Tillman particularly) and the turnovers stopped coming regularly, the defensive shortcomings became glaring. If Tucker couldn't operate Lovie's defense effectively, he should have said so, rather than taking the DC job under the condition that he operate in that defense. He should be replaced at season's end, which will probably be tomorrow.
Cutler has 17 TD's and 11 Int's. That is a shit ratio. He will have failed to secure the division with 2 chances to do it. He will have established a 1-8 record VS their top rival and most importantly, chief competitor in their division. He has to go. With 9 Td's and 16 Int's VS Green Bay and a 61.5 overall QB rating which resulted in the 1-7 record he has established VS Green Bay. If his history VS the Packers repeats itself (history so often does) I am going to be VERY interested to see if the Bears finally come to their senses and realize he's NOT a franchise QB and need to go in another direction.
