Offensive Tackle Specific Traits
Pass Protection 3 Lacks ideal foot quickness and athleticism. Faster edge rushers can give him some problems. Rushers with elite first-step quickness can force him to overset and get off-balance on occasion. He struggles to sink his hips, as well. However, he has long arms and he forces edge rushers to take a wide path to the QB. He continues to learn his limitations and to play within himself. He can hold his own on an island versus most DE's and he dominated top competition as a senior (ie Iowa's Adrian Clayborn) and fared well at the Senior Bowl, as well. While he doesn't sink his hips naturally, he is big and strong enough to anchor versus the bull rush. He can absorb initial push and rest his feet quickly when working against one-dimensional power rushers. Not a great athlete but shows adequate lateral mobility and footwork when forced to redirect.
Run Blocking 1 Struggles to stay low coming out of stance and will have some trouble versus moving targets at times. Not as strong in the lower body as he is in the upper body, and can be a bit of a 'leaner' at times. However, he is still one of the most efficient and dominant run blocking offensive linemen in this year's class. He is a big, technically sound run blocker who takes great angles and works hard to finish. Shows good short-area agility. Has long arms and a powerful upper-body. Does a great job of locking on and steering the defender.
Awareness 1 Has great playing experience and it shows. Does an above average job of picking up blitz. Shows great poise in pass protection. Recognizes and makes sound adjustments to line stunts. Knows his assignments and does an excellent job of handing off defenders to his OG on combo blocks. Shows ability to make in-game adjustments.
Toughness 1 Is mentally and physically tough. Plays with an edge. Doesn't just sustain block; he works to finish the defender off. Has been nicked throughout his career but has proven willing and able to play through pain.
