He's fine going forward for run plays, likely he will not be on the field during passing downs.

Hopefully this works out better than the Marc Columbo experiment.

I really hope this is an accurate projection by Mayock.

Green Bay took the Miss St. left tackle 3 picks later. So now we get to compare the two to see if Jerry let the better one go to the Packers. That would sting if they got the better one.

Everybody had our guy ranked higher, however. GB would have took him if they could have.

Scouting Reports
Notes: Parade All-American as a two-way lineman who also competed in track as a prep. Redshirted in 2006. The following season, replaced Browns ’07 third overall pick Joe Thomas, starting all 13 games at left tackle. Started all 10 games played in ’08 but missed three after tearing his right MCL against Ohio State. Sprained his right knee in ’09 fall camp but returned to start all 13 games at left tackle. Suffered an AC sprain in his left shoulder in October but did not miss any time. Won the Outland Trophy in ’10 after starting all 13 games at left tackle. Team captain. Did not perform shuttles at the Combine because of a left ankle sprain.

Positives: Has a short trunk, long torso and very long arms. Plays with a good base and balance. Efficient leveraging the edge and sliding in pass protection. Rose to the occasion against top competition, handling Iowa’s Adrian Clayborn and Ohio State’s Cameron Heyward and showing he could match up against size and create some push off the line of scrimmage. Solid technician with good footwork. Works to the second level and fits cleanly on linebackers. Very tough and will play through injuries. Showed surprisingly well at the Senior Bowl. Smart and assignment-sound. Takes the game seriously, works hard and wants to improve.

Negatives: Needs to get stronger in the lower body and play with more consistent knee bend. Not does have enough lead in his pants or snarls. Not powerful and too often falls off blocks. Has a white-collar mentality at a blue-collar position and carries an inflated opinion of himself. Thinks he is better than he is and came off as arrogant and selfish in interviews at the Combine. Durability is concerning — was consistently slowed by injuries. Did not look comfortable on the inside at the Senior Bowl. Appeared very upright and slipped multiple times in positional drills at the Combine.

Summary: A long-limbed, rangy leaner who may never be great, but answered questions about an injury-riddled junior season and showed the mental toughness to win tough battles as a senior. Some NFL evaluators have projected him to the ORT and OG positions, but should be able to step into the starting lineup readily at left tackle in the pros like he did in college. Compares favorably to Giants 1999 19th overall pick Luke Petitgout.

NFL projection: First-round pick.

Overall Football TraitsProduction 1 2006: Redshirted 2007: (13/13) Started every game at left tackle. 2008: (10/10) Started 10 games at left tackle. 2009: (13/13) Started every game at left tackle. 2010: Started all 13 games at left tackle.

Height-Weight-Speed 2 Possesses above average height with prototypical bulk for a ROT. Hands (10 3/8 inches) and arms (35) are above average. His 10-yard split (1.78 seconds) and 40-yard dash (5.18) are both faster than average.

Durability 4 2008: Injures knee during first quarter of Ohio State game and misses the next three games. 2010: Misses part of spring practice after undergoing knee surgery.

:roll: :roll:

I know this pick has to be its own and has nothing to do with williams or columbo but does Jerry Angelo require his offensive lineman to have some serious injuries under their belt?

Intangibles 2 Hard worker that plays with great intensity regardless of whether it's game day or practice. Academic All Big Ten in 2009, 2008 and 2007. Team's rookie of the year in 2007.

1 = Exceptional2 = Above average3 = Average4 = Below average5 = Marginal
Offensive Tackle Specific Traits

Pass Protection 3 Lacks ideal foot quickness and athleticism. Faster edge rushers can give him some problems. Rushers with elite first-step quickness can force him to overset and get off-balance on occasion. He struggles to sink his hips, as well. However, he has long arms and he forces edge rushers to take a wide path to the QB. He continues to learn his limitations and to play within himself. He can hold his own on an island versus most DE's and he dominated top competition as a senior (ie Iowa's Adrian Clayborn) and fared well at the Senior Bowl, as well. While he doesn't sink his hips naturally, he is big and strong enough to anchor versus the bull rush. He can absorb initial push and rest his feet quickly when working against one-dimensional power rushers. Not a great athlete but shows adequate lateral mobility and footwork when forced to redirect.

Run Blocking 1 Struggles to stay low coming out of stance and will have some trouble versus moving targets at times. Not as strong in the lower body as he is in the upper body, and can be a bit of a 'leaner' at times. However, he is still one of the most efficient and dominant run blocking offensive linemen in this year's class. He is a big, technically sound run blocker who takes great angles and works hard to finish. Shows good short-area agility. Has long arms and a powerful upper-body. Does a great job of locking on and steering the defender.

Awareness 1 Has great playing experience and it shows. Does an above average job of picking up blitz. Shows great poise in pass protection. Recognizes and makes sound adjustments to line stunts. Knows his assignments and does an excellent job of handing off defenders to his OG on combo blocks. Shows ability to make in-game adjustments.

Toughness 1 Is mentally and physically tough. Plays with an edge. Doesn't just sustain block; he works to finish the defender off. Has been nicked throughout his career but has proven willing and able to play through pain.

1 = Exceptional2 = Above average3 = Average4 = Below average5 = MarginalPLAYER

How many offensive lineman get to this point and have had 0 injuries? I am guessing not many at all.

When has an NFL football team took out a lineman during passing downs?

Seems like one of his big negatives is a weak legs. That can be fixed with a NFL weight lifting routine. I'd rather them come in weak in the lower body than the uper body.

So any guesses on who the bears really wanted and were trying to trade for?

The Bears wanted Gabe Carimi so badly they set out to do something Jerry Angelo hadn't done in nine previous drafts with the club.

They tried to trade up in the first round. Fearing the Chiefs were targeting Gabe Carimi with the 27th overall pick, the Bears worked to swing a deal with the Ravens at 26 to move up three spots. That fell through at the last minute and the Chiefs then jumped ahead of the Ravens, but they used the pick on Pitt wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin.

That left Carimi, the supremely confident four-year starter out of Wisconsin, to fall to the Bears. Talk about a swing of luck as they got their man without having to deal up. If Carimi had not been available, the Bears were poised to select Oregon State defensive tackle Stephen Paea.

That's what I thought when ESPN broke this. I knew the Bears didn't want the WR that KC took or the CB that Baltimore took. Good. We didn't have to give up a 3rd or 4th to move up 3 spots. That's probably what Baltimore wanted. I'll bet Baltimore was holding out for a 3rd and Jerry wouldn't do it.
